Been looking at these they look very good £130 for main stand with front wheel lifter of ebay ,anyone used one of these ? thanks Stu:smile:
Yeah Stu, used one for ages now. Bit expensive but worth it, check prices from Abba direct before buying from ebay tho cos you might save a bit on postage! Cheers
Buy from abba direct as you will get the correct fittings for your bike, they are extra from others. Steve
Dunno if its just me but although the ABBA is great as a stand there are a couple of drawbacks well at least for my 1098. Pros Lifts the back end well high for cleaning etc: Solid as a rock If additional foot peg mounts are purchased it can be used to take the swing arm off and because it lifts the back end high it makes it easy to work on Cons Bit of a faff if you're going to take it on and off the stand frequently (I'd say more than once a day, but everybody's different, its not much work but some would definitely regard it as a PIA on a frequent basis) If not installed correctly it can chip the frame paint I never tried the front jack thingy but I did place a car jack underneath the sump plate (at the filter) as an experiment and found the bike pretty unstable. Not saying the ABBA front jack doesn't work but judging by my experiment I wouldn't think it could lift the front wheel clear of the deck and still be rock solid. For regular use you are probably better with a regular paddock stand or if you've got loads of dosh a Bursig stand is probably the ultimate (or a cheaper clone). I still think ABBA are very good but like everything they have good and bad points Just my experiences with it John
I have a conventional single sided paddock stand and my old man has an Abba. The bike so far has had 50/50 usage on both. Personally I find the Abba a faff and although it's much more solid once it's on the Abba stand, I prefer the simplicity of the conventional stand. I actually paid about the same for the stand I have as my old man did for his Abba so the Abba is pretty good value for a single sided bike, but I find it weird to use. It is the most solid stand I've ever seen but somehow I still prefer mine that slots into the rear axle. Suppose it's just down to personal preference. Andy edit - have posted two pics below. The Abba does seem to raise the bike a lot higher.
I've used one for ages now. Great stands, very secure lifting the bike on to it. Change your bike, you can just buy another set of plugs to fit the new bike, without having to buy another stand. The great thing is, you can drop out the rear wheel, suspension unit etc. Admitedly you can't remove the swinging arm without further fittings from Abba, but I've never removed, or needed to remove, a swinging arm anyway! As said above, if the advertised stand doesn't say what fittings come with it, you're going to have to buy the correct fittings from Abba in any case. They're about £22.
Hi thanks for the help guys im still undecided going to have a shot of a rear stand and a headstock front stand tomorrow when shes in for new boots see how i get on .
I have the Abba and the Ducati "standard" rear paddock stand, I use the standard rear stand for day to day use, but would only trust the abba if i was thinking of messing with the front wheel or dropping/raising the forks.
I have three different stands, an ABBA, a Bursig and conventional paddock stands, they are all good in the right situation and some are better at gaining access to certain areas, but the one stand that gets used the most by far is the Abba stand, purely because it is the easy at putting on and off the bike and is the lightest to use.
Only downside I find apart from the faff of getting. On and off its that it traps the rear brake so rear wheel no spinny
