I have arranged to have the standard tires changed to PR4's (as my bike will not see any dirt use at all) before I take delivery of my new multi however after test riding the multi I'm wondering if I should bother. The question I would like to throw out there is how are people finding the new scorpions in general and to those that have had multi's before (and not taken them off road) do they immediately changed the tires (once worn) to a proper sport touring tire ?? Edit, I should have pointed out that the change over cost would be minimal (labor charge only)
I had reservations about the scorpions, I had pr4's on previous multi but having ragged the demo on the twisties I've got just as much confidence in them. Yet to try them in the wet but if they're half descent I'd say you'd be wasting your money
Put PR4's on from the start if you can. My dealer changed them from the scorpion to PR4's foc as part of the PDI. Dual purpose tyres are just that - not good for on or off road - get a good road tyre on and for me that is the PR4 (at the moment).
I thought the newer ones were OK on my shortish test ride, but I had such a poor experience with the old ones I'd make the change straightaway if the cost is labour only.
I was a bit doubtful about the new Pirelli Scorpion 2 fitted to the DVT, in light of the fact that the Scorpion 1 on the earlier model were poor and the Michelin Pilot Road 3/4 were so much better. I was tempted to fit PR4 to the DVT at the outset, but decided to give the Scorpion 2 a try. Having now done 2,500 miles on the Scorpion 2 (wet and dry, plenty of twisties), I have to admit that they are not at all bad. In my opinion the Scorpion 2 are a lot better than Scorpion 1. So I am going to stick with the Scorpion 2 until they wear out, then consider the options.
