Hi folks, quick review for you.... I was experiencing ringing and pain in my ears after riding, I have also been mindful of looking after my hearing as I am in the Military and am often exposed to harmful noises so I need to minimize exposure where possible. I wanted something that plug in to my comms system and having used ACS before I decided to go with the PRO-27 Communicator. As the name suggests the filter out up to 27db of noise, the result is a very pleasurable and safe riding experience. I was fitted for them by a local audiologist around 2 weeks ago and they landed on my mat yesterday. Managed to give a test this morning and they really are a revelation, you are still able to hear your engine and voice, they just cut all the wind noise down, I found I was more relaxed and able to focus more rather than putting up with that horrible racket. They fit neatly and have no external pressure pushing against them. They double as custom in ear monitors and the sound is fantastic! Not cheap at £299 but what price do you put on your hearing......
I recently got a pair of those (although not a Communicator version) as I often work shooting club nights and live music... I agree... absolutely brilliant - so much easier to understand when someone is shouting into your ear and I can stand next to the speakers and my ears are fine. When the weather gets better I'll try them on a bike although I never had an issue with noise when I'm riding. Probably worth mentioning that just the plugs (without the communicator) cost £140 and than Pro-27 has non linear attenuation - 23dB in low and mid-range and 35dB in high frequencies. If you after better sound reproduction but slightly less protection go for Pro-26 which cut off 26dB across all frequencies.
I got a set from Puretone in Kent. Custom moulded and very comfy, I need to get the ipod adapters sorted for them now.
I bought a set in the USA, I have a wife and teenage children, I too am experiencing damaging noises!
Question, if I may... The next thing I would like to get is a intercom system that will allow me and my wife to talk whilst also hearing my nav and listen to music at the same time. We both have Schuberth C3's so they have the SRC system but that uses helmet speakers, I need something I can connect my custom earplugs (3.5mm jack) into. Any recommendations?
Hi Ape2Duc Thanks for the great report on the ACS Pro 27. I'm new to the forum and Ducati. I'm collecting my new MTS PP in a few weeks. My current ride is a Tiger 1050 which suffers similar noise issues that are common to tall rounder style bikes with small touring fairings. Like you I was also in the military (RAF) so my hearing has been pretty well shot (no pun intended!) over the years. I was actually looking for reviews on the ACS pro 27s and will now be getting some asap. True they are pricy but as you said, what price do you put on your hearing. In answer to your last question I have been looking at iphone apps that turn your smart phone into an intercom (and still listen to your music) for only a few quid. see https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/motacom/id557603771?mt=8 is just one of the apps I found. Also the 20m bluetooth range means you could use it bike to bike when riding together with a mate. Well worth a try I think. From the reviews that I've read of these apps it seems that the success is dependent on your earphones (sound isolation and audio quality). Used with the ACS pro 27s it could be an effective solution. With the right jack connections you may be able to wire in your nav also. The overall price of this set up would then be a bargain when compared to some of the dedicated bike intercom systems that seem to disappoint in many ways. If I beat you to it I will put a review on this thread.
Hi Ape Or indeed anyone else that can help, did you ever manage to connect the schubert src to the pro 27s? Cheers
Don't have the Schu but I soldered a 3 .5 mm female jack to the in helmet speaker connections on my setup Works a treat and have sound from the in helmet speakers for short journeys
