so, never had this issue with my 2010 Multi 1200s ... but now just after 2 years, the battery seems to have gone kaput in my 2018 1260s. i keep the bike on a battery tender when parked in the garage, just as i did with all my previous Ducatis ... and each of them had batteries that lasted about 5 years ... so this 2-year battery issue is perplexing. i have a feeling that the battery tender i have been using for the past 10 years might be the culprit, so i am replacing it with a brand new deltran 4amp smart charger. if i can get the battery back up to a full charge, then i will run the bike and see what the charging system is doing. so, on to the original questions from the subject line: has anyone had a battery go low/dead by storing the active key too close to the bike, causing the keyless system to be constantly 'pinging" the active key?
good to know. I always kept the active key for my 2010 multi on the other side of the garage, so about 25’ away.
Just a warning about keeping the key too close. I had my key in my jacket in the bedroom cupboard which is above the garage. I found I could still start the bike! I’ve got a faraday pouch for the key now and that cured it
The bike does not constantly look for the key when it's turned off. It only looks for the key when you turn it on from the handlebar or tank switch
happy happy joy joy! ordered a replacement OEM Yuasa YT12B-BS battery for the 1260s yesterday afternoon from summitracing.com ... the battery arrived this afternoon (1 day delivery, from their Nevada warehouse, one state over from me) ... all for $95.90, overnight delivery, and tax included. w00t! hopefully, this one will last longer than the stock one ... 2 years is not good, but a few of my friends who are EEs suggested it might have been a murder-suicide from the 12-year-old battery tender i had the Multi hooked up to. i got advised from an old friend who is the top Ducati mechanic in North America (he used to train the Ducati dealership techs) that i should only put the bike on the tender once a month for a day at most. i will heed his advice.
