I'm getting a batch made that will fit a range of bikes - SS, SSie, Monster, 748, 916 etc. with a 10 degree adjustment range available. Any one interested in a set? Have not finished haggling with the machinist yet but likely to be in the order of £50 each. PM me for more details
is that each pulley or each bike? Ps interested in a set for a 888 (so same as 916 desmoquattro) pps what material will they be made from?
Sorry should have been more clear - that will be per pulley. The outer is made from steel the exact spec as Ducati use and the inner from aluminium to reduce weight a little. I'm not an expert on the 888 so will check it out but if they are the same pulley as a 916 they will fit.
My worry is the reduced moment of inertia increasing the load on the belts. This method increases the moment a little but also lightens the item a little. Just thinking of the pulleys as small flywheels absorbing the loads from the cams.I'm having a batch of 10 made and will sell as pairs. One for 2v engines or 2 sets for 4v.Have fun.
Thereb isn't any loads on the cams only a hairspring helper, or if like mine no helper springs at all.
Not the same loads as a sprung valve head agreed but put a cam nut tool on the end of an electric drill and wind a cam fitted to a well shimmed head at speed (recommend the head is removed at the time) and check the oscillatory loads - especially on a 2v head. This load is without the gas loads on the valves adding their input. Then imagine those loads at a cam speed of 5000rpm. Cheers
Pablo - good find. My Italian is not brilliant but they look like the later, larger pulley for the later engines 749 onwards. I'm getting some made for my SS and 748. Cheers.
But you will see high oscillation as you are turning with zero leverage. The belt is working on the periphery at approx 30mm distance. Alloy ones are available I used them on my 583 DD bike.
I've seen the alloy ones and how much they cost (they were narrow pulleys also) might not be the same as the ones you have. I'll stick with mine though for my track 900ss and the track 748 as they need cam timing adjustment to optimise them and off set keys are getting difficult to obtain. My road bikes will stay as standard until I get in to the engines. Others can also make their own mind up as to the pros and cons. Have fun with your racing this year.
The alloy DP ones are around £40 each +vat. THey are narrow spec as on 748/916 belts. I run a set on my 853, and still use the R spec belts - no problems so far.r. They are non anjustable, but using an off set woodruff key solves that problem. A spare set I have will be going on my 620ie DD motor. The advantage they have is weight over adjustable ones. Reduce the reciprocating mass and give the motor an easier time.
Howdo!! Moko-moko (Ergal world) used to do the 18-toothed pulley's as well (2valve) £60ish a set on E-bay.
Howdo!! DUCATI 996 916 748 KIT PULEGGE ALLEGERITE IN ERGAL 964094AAA DUCATI PERFORMANCE | eBay DUCATI KIT PULEGGIE DISTRIBUZIONE MOTORE ERGAL MONSTER | eBay Not sure about the postage costs!!!!!
Thanks Pablo - The postage on the second line does seem a little steep even for e-bay!! I'm sticking by my adjustable versions with ducati spec steel outers - being made as we type. As with the post that started this thread - any people interested in a set drop me a PM. Thanks to all that have contacted me already.
