Advice from Seasoned Mutley Riders Please - Misfire

  1. Hi.
went for a spin tonight, first ride since washing the bike on Monday (no pressure wash involved, just a dribble from the hose followed by FS365 spray.)
cruising along in top gear at 65-70 it felt like I had closed the throttle, I gradually increased the throttle until all of a sudden it would "catch" and lurch off down the road. This would repeat every time I tried to hold a constant speed. I accelerated smoothly through the rev range with no ill effects, pulled all the way up to 10k. The bike is a standard 2010 1200 ABS with the only mod being FATDUCS. these have been on the bike virtually since I got it 11 months and 4500 miles ago and I have never had this happen before.
i checked the visible FATDUC for water ingress - none - and I checked the exhaust valve which was not corroded at all and moved freely by hand.
the bikes due a service in a couple of weeks and my 12 month extended warranty runs out then, is there anything else worth checking just so I don't look a complete fool when the dealer says " you daft twat, didn't you check the ....."
i searched for misfire but drew a blank,
    thanks in advance

  2. Went for another spin this morning and there's no sign of yesterday's issue. Must've got some water / FS365 in the works somewhere and the heat from the motor dried it out. Hey ho.

  3. That is most likely your issue rather than something terminal, given it has resolved itself. Electrical gremlins ar a bastard to locate at the best of times. (not very helpful i know) but it doesnt sound like anything major to worry about just keep an eye out.

  4. Keep an eye on it. Mine did something similar and they ended up replacing the kill switch unit under warranty.

  5. Ah fer feck's sake, it's started again, guess I'll be calling the dealer tomorrow. Thanks for the top tip Mac. Grrrrrr
