916 Advice Needed On Seat Section Removal

Discussion in '748 / 916 / 996 / 998' started by Dartanion, Apr 3, 2020.

  1. As above, hoping that someone can point me in the direction of where I can find advice on how to go about removing the rear seat section - I have new bodywork that I want to fit, no problem with the fairings and nose section but it's not obvious how to get the rear section off.

I did a quick search on here and on Youtube to no avail - hope someone can assist.

    Cheers

  2. Dartanion, Bip or mono?

  3. Unlock the seat and lift it up. If you look on the left side in the frame area just below the seat tank join you will see the lock. Turn the key and lift the seat from the back
You should then see the hinge. It is held on by 2 plastic pins. There should be a little plastic/rubber thing on the ends. Take that off and push the pins out. Remember to disconnect the wiring connector clamped to the bottom of the seat

  4. As higgy748 says just pull the little rubber piece off between the two plastic pivot pins and push the pins out to release the whole seat unit, you won't believe how easy it is once you've done it. Just one thing unplug the rear light wiring clipped to the base of the seat first.

  5. I think it's a mono conversion from a Bi - but I don't have the seat release lock - I guess this must be an afterpart unit - I'll go take a closer look and post some pics which may help to identify the issue.

  6. Sorry, should have said thanks for the responses guys, much appreciated.

  7. Bloody hell, it's obvious now I can get at the bike, just as you guys said (the bike has been stuck against the garage wall and was not able to check the left side of the bike easily) lock sorted the release so I can now begin to rebuild the back of it.

    Cheers

  8. That’s the thing with these, beautifully simple to strip down to nothing in very little time.

now try doing the same on a panigale :bucktooth::joy::joy:

  10. I reckon I'd have broken off most of the clips and only be half way to getting the fairings off the V4 lol

  11. So, I've managed to strip back most of the bodywork and now removed the exhaust for cleaning -

@higgy748, @Denzil the Ducati - Couple of questions for you guys - can anyone point me in the direction of getting hold of the fasteners that hold the upper and lower side fairing sections together, or tell me what they are so I can search the bay for them - the side fairings that I removed were aftermarket one piece items so didn't have any mid section fasteners.

Also, what the general consensus for a replacement tail tidy for the 916, is the R&G version the way to go or does anyone have any other suggestions?

  12. The DP carbon fibre ones were the choice when available. You see them pop up every now and then on eBay. If you’re going to keep the battery, top up the levels as they look way below the mark.

  13. Within the last month there was a thread on here about those fasteners and where to get them they also discussed well nuts. Cant rememberthe thread

  14. CT moto, Carbon Trader sold the fasteners. Their D ring Dzus fasteners are a good choice also.

  15. Thanks guys, I’ll check them out on the bay and see if I can find the thread on the fasteners

  16. Cheers Andy. They do the yellow zinc versions too. At least they did a few years ago.

  17. Thanks dentil, order placed, just need to sort the dzus clips now - the old fairings had the rivet types that are no good for the new fairings.

    Cheers chaps
