hi all, I'm new to the forum and hopefully by the weekend a new Ducati owner. I'm currently looking at 2 different 749s models. 1 - 2003 749s 6k miles, immaculate with a few trick carbon upgrades. 2 - 2004 749s 16k miles, again immaculate but this as full termi exhaust on with no other trick bits. both have fsh, 3 keys and all the book etc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated to make this difficult decision a little easier. cheers, Dave.
I don't want to contradict this advice as it seems sensible. However, 6k miles isn't ultra-low mileage and isn't that much better than 16k, in my view. The expense of finding a termi system for the bike, which you will want, probably outweighs the benefit you'll get from the "carbon goodies" of the 6K model. That said, for the right price, neither of these would be a mistake to buy but I would factor in the cost of a termi for the non-termi'd 749, when looking at the price. Carbon bits you can find piecemeal, when you feel the need. All in my opinion of course, there isn't a wrong choice here.
Termi's are almost required kit. OTOH I have a 999 with a standard exhaust - it's the only one of its kind on the planet
termi or mileage equals brain hurt. I think i'll view both and go with my heart. Both seen great and have positives for different reasons. either way ill hopefully be riding a Ducati by Sunday. Smiles all round.
Go for the termi' one...cos if you don't you'll soon wish you had, and to be honest the mileage between the two isn't as crucial as it might seem at first glance, I wouldnt think twice about buying a well looked after bike with 16k miles if it has a FSH, and like Loz says you can always add a smattering of carbon fibre later on if the feeling takes you .... it also depends on the price difference between the two tho....oh and congrats in advance ,Ducati ownership is something special...
termi bike is cheaper but £200 ish. Nothing really in it. I'm viewing one tomorrow and one Friday so ill have an idea by Friday tea time which way ill be swaying. cheers for the input everyone.
This is a tough one!!! tbh I would say that if they are both the 'first shape' with the grey swingarm then I personally would go 6K Miles, but that's because I just had a 675 that I bought above average mileage and it hadn't been looked after as well as I would like. If the 16K one is absolutely mint, and no signs of furry bolts etc, and perhaps even looked after by the same reputable dealer then I would go there for sure. I would expect the price of them to be the same though to reflect the Termi's versus low miles.
My 2004 749s has over 30,000 miles on the clock and runs great. 16k high mileage for an 11 year old bike?? less than 1500miles a year. If its been looked after it will treble that figure easily. I would go for termi's but check history.
