Hi, I have come across a 748R for sale which I am looking at. It is listed as a 2001 748R model. Could someone with a bit more in the know than me have a look at the pictures and see if it looks right? https://www.goobike.com/spread/8502340B30181027001/index.html Thanks
I had one of those (Y169 AVG). It looks ok to me. I only looked at the first four or five pictures, though. Correct wheels, correct suspension, correct CF air-box, correct body-work/colours/decals.
Looks like the original panels for the year. Only way to tell is to take um off and check part numbers.
Not really, without removing the panels and looking for the Ducati part numbers embossed on the inside.
Looks very nice and appears to be correct. I would want to see some sort of proof that it has had a rocker check though - quite aggressive cam profiles on 748R which can give the rockers a hard time. Go for it.
Depending on where it has been imported from, the headlight could be pointing in the wrong direction and you’ll need to either find an overlay for the kph speedo or find a replacement if you want to ride it in the UK. An easy check, release the seat to expose the monoposta subframe and you should see the frame has been reinforced along the sides with a welded aluminium rod. This was a mod for the 2001 Ohlins model on. The rear hugger is not something I remember seeing available in the UK, the carbon chain cover has replaced the original plastic one and for me, the carbon clutch cover is a bit naff but that said, nice looking bike. If it’s not a rude question, how much are they asking for it ? Andy
It all looks correct as said; forks, shock, oil cooler, subframe, headstock plate, badly fitted throttle grip, etc ... BUT ... I would still want to look under the tank to see if it has the overhead shower injectors that only came with the 748R.
Also, pull off the RHS fairing side and check the cam belt cover, there should be a gap between it and the engine. Oh, and welcome to the Forum
Hi Andy I have imported a few bikes from Japan so aware of the process, thanks for the tip on the subframe. Its just under £5000
If I was in the market, I’d bite their hand off at that. Even with the slight reluctance of the UK market to pay a premium for an import, you have a fantastic ride and a bike that even I would confidently say, you won’t lose money if/when you decide to move it on. Andy
