Hi guys, Am new to the forum and am hoping for a little advice, please. I am considering selling my Sport 1000 Classic within the next few weeks. As you know, these bikes are very rare to come by and they seriously hold their value. As a result, it's not easy, as it is with other bikes, to put an accurate value on them. I have found that iconic bikes like the Sport 1000 Classic are worth however much somebody wants to pay for them. My question is - how much could I realistically expect from a private sale? It's a 2006 model with a very low mileage of only 3,200. FULL main dealer Ducati service history. Its next service interval is due in about 750 miles. I have every piece of paperwork for the bike, including manuals, booklets, sales literature, invoices, MOTs etc, etc. It has just passed its MOT with no advisories. Bike has the following extras, and I also have all the original parts which would be included if I did decide to sell it: - Keihan twin stainless steel exhaust system - Wrapped headers - ABM fully adjustable clip ons - Crash bungs The bike is in absolutely immaculate condition. I know this is an overused phrase but it really has been cherished and meticulously looked after, and kept in a heated room throughout the winter - these bikes deserve nothing less. I will upload photos in the next few days. Any advice with regards to how much I should realistically expect would be much appreciated. Thanks, guys. Ashley.
This dealer has a 888 for sale and I think the Sport Classic is more desirable, so it may give some indication as to what you might ask. ... Ducati 888 | eBay
Ashley, I've seen such a wide price range for these bikes that it'd be difficult to put an accurate value on it. If someone's feeling flush and in the market for one then top dollar, if not then you might not be happy. If you've decided to sell it then chuck it on eBay with a decent reserve and see what happens. As you've said, they are well sought after but that's no guarantee of a high price. I owned a very sought after bike, a Baines Imola, I owned it for nearly 2 years and sold it for double what I paid. When I sold it two people wanted it and so the price went up and up. When I bought it, I'd seen it advertised for a little while and negotiated a good deal.
Had a quick look on ebay. One on for £7995, been on for a few weeks now. The other got to £7200 reserve not met, had loads of extras. I'd advertise it in standard condition ( apart from the bars ) using the above as a guide and ignore dealer prices. Personally I'd hang on for a few months. Couldn't resist having my ten penneth........
I would hang on to it until past Easter at least. That , in my opinion, is the buying season when winters 'buyers' market becomes springs 'sellers' market and demand for raresh bikes outstrips supply. I advertised a rare collectible bike though February - early March - nothing. I got fed up and considered dropping the price to a very low level just to get rid of it - I began to think all the talk of them going up in value was rubbish... But I stuck to my guns and waited .Soon as Easter passed and a hint of warm weather came I re advertised it at the same ambitious price - I suddenly got four buyers interested and sold that evening! Timing is everything! Don;t be tempted to rush it!
Keeping to early spring is a smart play. I regularly buy a flip bike in Nov/early Dec and consistently make good profit with a bit of polish and relist in mid March - April. Wish i could do this more. As suggested, return to bone stock, sell accesories in a seperate transaction....possibly to the same buyer ....... It is a SC mono.... not a GT, PS or SC1000 Sport right? 6500-7999 should bring you a quick painless sale... 7999-9500 will take time to find the right buyer... 9500+ would be a buyer that "absolutly has to have it now" How badly do you want to sell?
I dont think he does. There seems to be a lot of ego massaging with owners of the sc lately. Although i could be wrong.
Theres a couple of monos on ebay at the moment priced around what UKDUC suggests, so I'd view that as a guide price at the moment. Most of the eye popping prices being asked are dealers asking them so I dont see much ego massaging from the owners particularly, whatever that means. Unless your selling these things are fairly irrelevant in any case.
Hi guys, Thank you to those of you who gave some positive input. I really appreciate it. Yes, I've seen the red one one eBay that is advertised for 7995. It has been on there for a few weeks, and I am beginning to wonder why it hasn't sold, especially with how rare these bikes are. I guess it's just not the right season at the moment. The mileage on mine is less than half of that one. I am in no rush to sell whatsoever. The only reason I would is because I have barely clocked up any mileage in the three years I have owned it. I can't justify keeping something of that value if it's not getting used. I may hold back until around mid/late April. I know how much the first hint of sunshine can get people excited!
Ooops . After advising asifneeli about waiting for Easter I'm saddened to say I have put mine up for sale. A change in circumstances meant I had no choice it had to go to pay for an unexpected event...I know I will regret it when things change on the financial front...we had such great times together.
That's the one...rightly or wrongly I took the pricing advice of UKDUCsRUS above and pitched accordingly. It is as close to original as you can get - all improvements can be reset to standard as I have all the original parts. Also in my opinion it is in outstanding condition - better than recent Ebay entries. Amazingly I have received an email enquiry already from someone who wants to view but can't do so for about two weeks. I don't know what that means and there are plenty of lurkers and dreamers out there so I'll just have to see what happens...
good luck with the sale as an occasional seller of bikes i hope you get the best price ever as an occasional buyer of bikes i hope i get you sell it to me for 50 quid an a packet of chewing gum
Best of luck with the sale mate! When people call and want to see be upfront and ask them if they are in the trade and looking for stock. If the answer is yes, or you feel your dealing with a trader make sure to indicate you are firm on your price. Any offers lower than 10% of your asking price are just trying to take advantage of you and or your situation. Its a great looking bike and should sell well at that price!
