Advice Please From Anyone Living In Sheffield

  1. I have to go to Charles Clifford Dental Hospital, Sheffield, on Monday. All the hospital have said is don`t drive here because parking is very limited. They`ve given me a basic travel plan.
Drive to Meadowhall and park there. Is it free parking? I`ve never been before.
Then get a tram with a yellow square on it, this "should drop you off near the hospital."
Are the tram stops at Meadowhall? How long will the tram journey take? I think they run every 10 minutes. Is it even the right tram? the hospital seemed a bit vague on this.
Any alternative routes you can recommend? Are the locals friendly?
The appointment is at 11:30 am by the way.

  2. Yes parking at Meadowhall is free. No idea about the trams as I avoid Meadowhall like the plague and if I have to go into Sheffield I drive there.

  3. Things I now know.
Most of the drive to Meadowhall was ok. If there`s a next time I will, however, make sure I put the correct postcode in the sat nav and get the maps updated. I put the hospitals postcode in by mistake instead of Meadowhall. By the time I`d realised my error we were in Sheffield centre. Along with some "helpful" comments from the passenger seat, (if you saw the sign for Meadowhall miles back, why didn`t you say anything???) the sat nav was re set but then the electronic swine refused to recognise any bus lanes, taxis only, or any new one ways. That was fun, I`ve never heard the word "recalculating" so much. I must admit though, I quite enjoyed the "cut and thrust" of the rat race. Old car usually beats shiny new car to the gaps in the traffic. ;)
The tram was almost a pleasure to ride, Clean, quiet and frosty cold air con. We had to get a connecting bus for the last couple of stops because of track work but even that was ok.
The return bus part of the journey got off to a rocky start. You had to go to a different, un signed, "secret" temporary bus stop. We did manage to foil the bus companies plan to keep us in Sheffield, FOR-EVEEEER! We tagging along with a local woman who was going our way, she saved the day and I can now vouch for the locals being friendly as well.

  4. Did anyone call you duck or love?

  5. I`m afraid not, that did rather ruin the whole Yorkshire experience for me. ;)

One of the bus drivers dealt with a young gobshite who tried, in his best gangsta voice, to blag his way onto the bus for free with a fake bus pass.

Gangsta: "Me ticket is heavy, let me on da bus."

Bus driver: "Roight lad, pay t` ticket or gerr o`t` bus, I`m onny goan tell theur t`once."

Gangsta boy continues arguing his case from the pavement as the bus drives away. :Hilarious:
