Advice please - track day tyres for my 1098

Discussion in 'Tyres' started by Fozzie, Oct 5, 2012.

  1. I'm after rubber for dry track days that's also road legal...not worried about performance on the road or in the wet. I've currently got Supercorsa BSBs but was a little bit concerned to feel a bit of vagueness and wallowing at the back when cranked over. I've been told that the sidewalls are relatively soft which doesn't help this. Thinking of trying BT 003s or Michelin Power Ones...any experience or advice most welcome.

Reading the forum, it's clear that there's tons of experience out there from very able riders and racers...I'm just an Intermediate on track days, so if you think there's nowt in it between all these options for someone of my ability, feel free to say so.

    Cheers.

  2. Power Ones

  3. My vote heads the way of the Supercorsas, but a lot depends on how you ride, how heavy you are etc. Ultimately it all comes down to feel and that is a very personal thing

  4. Thanks everyone

  5. Always found the BSBs awesome.

as an aside, just trying slicks for Spain after so many said they are worthwhile

  6. Have you looked at Supercorsa SP's, these are fitted to my 1198 and I had them on the R1 for both road and track. Awesome tyres, loads of grip, good on the road (obvioulsy not too good in the wet!) and they lasted well. They are Supercorsa tread with a slightly more road friendly compound and profile. They are also this months performance bikes fast road/track tyre of choice.

  7. Metzeler racetecs.we all used them in almeria excellent grip .no issues at all .apart from the fact there worn out now !

  8. I've plumped for a set of 211's, ordered from FWR who were very helpful and friendly, and good for a further bit of discount...so thanks for all the suggestions, including the FWR recommendation. Can't wait to ruin them now next month at Jerez :upyeah:

  9. You'll need more than a single set of tyres at Jerez, it's a very abbrasive track. Last time I was there a few years ago I got through 3 rears and 2 fronts in 3 days!!

  10. Blimey!!! I'll have to sell the kids to fund this feckin trip. The bike's going with a set of BSBs with decent tread still on them, and I can only stay for the first 2 days, AND it's not an open pit lane affair, so hopefully I'll be OK :frown:. If not, your experience translates to 5 tyres consumed within 5 hours of track time, equating to about £2.50 per minute for tyres alone

  11. Just use slicks .no tread to wear out!lol

  12. My slicks came from FWR and couldnt agree more :upyeah:

  13. TBH in inters group you cold get away with a sports road tyre, will last longer, will warm quicker and will give some grip in the damp/wet. I just did Donington on normal Dunlop Qualifiers in inters and had no problems at all, I've read plenty of reviews about how crap they are too LOL

  14. Well I've recently been running R10's and found them ace! I'd use tyre warmers though cos cold they feel as if they're made of soap!

  15. I like really the gp racers too (in slick or treaded),
the michelin power ones are very grippy but i found they can let go without warning when worn. I have had 2 crashes on these tyres in recent years (but mybe im jut being cheap and stringing them out too much). they do V profile front which i love, makes the bike turn so fast and stick like glue.

i would recommend warmers tyre warmers if your going to use slicks or race oriented tyres road tyres as they will not deal with the number of heat cycles that a road tyre will

Freak thats a mental amount of tyre wear!! i'd expect 2 rears and a front in 3 days at jerez and my suspension needs a bit of work.
what kind of times were you doing round Jerez?
