1200 Advice, Thoughts On Pricing A Modded 1200

  1. Regrettably, due to one reason or another, after almost 2 years of getting her exactly the way i want and not being able to use her I am having to consider an extremely reluctant sale and am unable to price her sensibly as i have been the guy on the ground, spending a fortune etc.

Now she possibly isnt everyones cup of tea and my accessorising pprobably is excessive but it is what it is. I realise a lot of you guys strip the acessories and sell independently but for the current time and my reluctance to part with her im going to see if i can get shot as is.

she started life as a 2013 ABS model and is now an abomination of that, a GT and Pikes Peak. The following has been added/done:

  2. New to you or brand new engine and why was it replaced ? My memory of the twin spark is vague but your model does not have electronic suspension ? Andy

  3. Correct Andy, does not have electronic suspension.

Bike went in for a belt service @ 27500k and without making myself go apoplectic again, blew up as the first mechanic was test riding after belt service.

  4. Apologies, when i say 'new' it was second hand with verified 5800 miles.

  5. Mmmm, not a happy experience but hopefully resolved to your satisfaction. A quick look an eBay, you find a couple of genuine Pikes Peak at dealers for around £8.5k and then a selection of twin sparks around £6/£6.5k. Not wishing to be rude about your modifications but IMO, the only one that adds value is the exhaust. The things like the new service bits and the rear hub make the bike more attractive but don't necessarily add value. At the beginning of this year, I bought a 2010 Multistrada 1200S with Öhlins and about 19000 miles for £5k. I don’t think you’ll get close to PP money but no reason to sell yourself short, ask 7 something but be prepared to take nearer £7k. Probably not the estimate you are hoping for but I think it’s realistic. Andy

  6. Imho , and you asked, it’s going to be about what a standard 1200 TS would be as a cat d. If Android suggests they are out there for 6500, then 20% less or so, probably 5k. Bit it needs the right buyer as it’s quite non standard.

  7. Many many thanks, info much appreciated, theres no way im expecting the money i spent, just trying to see if its an option.......

  8. I asked and hoped members would be as you were....'Frank' - i can piss and whine about the money i spent, if it isnt anyone elses cup of tea, its worth only what someone else is willing to pay for it ;-) response much appreciated and understood. ;-)

  9. Android my friend - honesty was what i asked for...I know im a loonatic ;-) and i also appreciate that i went over and above sense here....the reason specifically I am asking for hnest opinions.

  10. It looks in good condition and most of the mods are a functional improvement but as mentioned don't directly add the value you've invested. It's clear you love the bike and weren't planning on selling.

You've got the low mileage new engine in your favour but as you are without Skyhook or Ohlins you will be competing against the higher mileage S models in the same price point. I feel the 6.5 - 7k mark may be your achievement but try for more as someone may value low mileage over fancy suspension.

Before you sell it can I suggest removing the high vis stickers on the panniers. It may just be me but the high vis yellow stripes clash badly with the rest of your colour scheme and I get distracted by them.

Maybe if you have some of the stock parts pop them back on and sell the high value items like the Denali's seperately or save them for your next bike.

    Btw I think you typo'd the exhaust it's 74mm. :)

  11. totall agree with the stripes on the paniers, they have already been ditched another mistake i failed to mention ;-)

Many thanks for the honesty, exactly as required all info taken on board and food for thought.

  12. My general rule is to always strip off any modifications (to sell them separately) and get the bike as close to standard as you can. Most people won’t want to pay extra for any of these and although it might appeal to some buyers I don’t think it would add a premium to the overall price.

You may well get about 60-80% of the cost of any add ons back if you offer them on the For Sale section. Obviously stickers etc can’t be resold but won’t add any value.

Buyers like a standard bike with maybe a couple of thoughtful extras. Overall condition, servicing record, age and milage are the criteria you will be judged by.

  17. I had a 2013 twinspark, the engines are typically sound. Pre twin spark were the ones that tended to have issues, sounds like the mechanic fckd up.
Value, a bit less than having the OE engine with a FSH and all in working condition. Plus few hundred added back on for the exhaust…
The ‘trimmings’ are very much a matter of taste.

  18. Sage advice, all points to me keeping her (Like i needed much of an excuse) but as you all say, clearly a matter of taste, which I appear to have none of ;-)

  20. Exactly what makes tempting at right price. Strip the decals, the anodised bits, some of the carbon and got a nice looking bike lol and the TS motor is a peach: imho better than the DVT
