I gone a have new tyre on the back... i have now 190/50 as stock... but I read many threads about that the best is 180/55 for 5,5 inch rims.... bit I think is it maybe because its mostly is trackdrivers in here:tongue:... for all-round on the road, and no track is 180/55 still the best... ore should I keep my 190/50.. also for the looks What about the new 190/55... like Dunlop Sportmax Sportsmart.. is it maybe good on 5,5 rims??
I had a 190/50 rear on my SPS for years and never encountered an issue. I then changed to a 180/55 and the difference in handling is like chalk and cheese. It requires a lot less effort to turn in to a corner and there is no loss of stability or grip. The 190 profile rear was more of a fashion statement because everyone else at the time was running the same size rear tyre, going to a 190/55 is probably going to lead to clearance issues with the rear hugger. So I'd stay with the 180 profile.
I have no clearance problem. . i have no hugger. But I dont know if it us a problem with this Dunlop 190/55 on a 5.5 inch
5.5" rim = 180/55. 6" rim = 190/55. the 190/50 on a 5.5" rim was purely for cosmetic purposes/ The 180 suits the 5.5" rim so much better. Though a 6" rim will run a 195/65 (as I do)
I still have a 190/50 on my 998 but next time I am going for a 180/55, they seem just that bit better to me.
180/55 every time. The 190 section tyres need a 6" rim as mentioned. The 55 profile can also give clearance issues around the exhaust/swingarm depending on your gearing/chain length. You need to running the eccentric in the back half of it's adjustment..
fwiw have run 190/55 on the 998s on track without trouble and i quite like the handling tbh 180/55 does turn alot quicker though, I just feel less confident getting on the gas coming out of the corner as the bike seems to squirm a bit more (maybe thats just in my head tho)
