Discussion in 'Ducati General Discussion' started by trevor1, Jul 13, 2013.

  1. Hi.Last week i won a 1998 748 from ebay. Before i was going to collect,i thought i should do an hpi check. The bike came back as stolen recovered in 2001.The owner now has owned the bike for 3 years and said he had no idea.

I still want the bike but should i walk away.I paid £1940 for it.

    Thanks.

Should be picking the bike up this morning.:frown:

  2. As long as its been officially recovered, then it wouldn't bother me.

  3. As above. But it begs the question, if it had been advertised correctly, would the price have gone up so high.

  4. I'd haggle on the price, as you'll be the one who loses out when you come to sell it on.

  5. How good is it? if it's just an average condition bike I would haggle a lot more or consider walking away. It certainly wasn't as listed despite the person selling not knowing.

  6. £1940 doesn't seem a bad price as long as the bike's in good nick. Did you pick it up? If not and the option to buy is still open, I'd haggle a bit, but I don't think it being stolen recovered will impact on the resale value in the same way a damage category would. Probably still well worth buying.

  7. just mention its worth less, he didn't know, know you both know, you should get at least £2-300 quid off.

  8. Yep, that's my theory. Worth a try, and then you've got yourself a bargain.

  9. a 748 for less than 2k - could be a good investment, but as said above, it should be in decent condition

  10. Of course the seller could be lying about not knowing, and will drop the price like a hot potato when challenged...

  11. how did you get on?

  12. Not one that's on the register, they aren't that rare .. personally I wouldn't touch it, it was cheap for a reason .....

  13. A bike that's stolen/recovered can be in perfect nick once the lockset is changed, buying a stolen/recovered bike wouldn't worry me at all. If it were recorded as a cat C or D (or whatever) damaged bike that would be a different kettle of fish entirely. I see no reason at all not to buy a stolen/recovered bike.

  14. Don't try and resolve it direct, Open up a dispute on eBay immediately try and get a couple of hundred quid off.

however I hate to point out the obvious, under 2 grand is a steal if its all up and running.

  15. Sorry for not getting back sooner.Been Away for a few days.I did the check with Hpi.Turns out it was a mistake on there part and the bike is all clear. No adverse History and the bike has nothing against it.They have removed Stolen recovered from the system.Anyway.picked the bike up ands its all good.A few things need sorting, but for the money its a bargain.

Just goas to prove that these companies make mistakes. Thanks for all the advise.

  16. Phew - you had us all worried - if they got that wrong, wonder if they've ever given a dodgy bike the all clear ......
