1200 Affordable De-cat For A 2013 1200?

  1. I'm considering liberating a bit more sound from my 2013 1200s. It seems there are loads of cheap options for the later bikes but very few about for the 2013 model. Anyone got any recommendations for a cheaper but viable replacement system for this model? Needs to not be daft noisy and also allow factory panniers to be fitted still.

If anyone has a suitable system getting in the way in the garage, more than happy to buy secondhand.

Apart from teh flap delete, do you need to map anything to make them run sweet with a de-cat or do they just learn by themselves and get on with it?

  2. Hi Mark - Although I haven't taken the plunge myself as yet I have done quite a bit of searching and reading. For your year of bike you would be ooking maybe at 3 possibles for a budget price point. Lextek , Delkevic and Dominator all make de-cat midpipes for your year. Priced between £130 - £220 ish . I have heard good things about the Dominator and it should be able to take the standard end can. Not sure on the other two but the Delkevic does come with a choice of silencer too at that price. What I would say is that it would make sense to get the ECU re-mapped when you do change. Some say its not necessary but I would defo get it done. I would start by deleting / removing the flap. SRS performance code the flap out when they do a remap so its worth maybe thinking about that. Cost £285 ish and you can send your ECU in the post.
The ECU remap is probably my next step before I do the de-cat as I don't want to get too noisy as it tends to be annoying and attract too much plod attention especially if you tour abroad.

    Thats my 10 penneth :)

  3. I got a modded exhaust box with the Cat taken out. Looks standard, but sounds tons better. I had it remapped to stop all the popping and banging on deceleration. This was on my 1260.
I'd tried an after market straight through exhaust first, but found it obscenely loud so sold it on. The modded cat boxes are perfect for my liking

  4. I've got an SC project de-cat 3/4 system with baffle gathering dust on a shelf in the garage. Wasn't really planning to sell but not opposed to it. Needs a little welding on the mount which I never go around to doing. I found it quieter than the Arrow which I had on a 2011 model. If you were interested I can get a picture of the damage and you can see if someone can fix it. DSC_0023.JPG
