After market warranty

  1. My extended "Ever Red" warranty expires in June so just checked out Warrantydirect. The quote was £650! Seems a bit expensive. I must admit to having a few concerns about major potential problems others have had that could cost a lot of ££££'s

Anyone else of the beta testers done any research?

  2. Hi all, not posted before so hello. I have a 2010 1200s touring that has covered around 6200 miles, I say around because the clocks were replaced last year. My question to you is the extended warranty is coming to an end in August and whilst the bike has had it's problems all of which are the usual ones we know about ie clocks, forks knocking and rear brake issues i am considering taking an aftermarket warranty with a leading company.

Don't get me wrong I absolutely love the bike! Wanted one since launch and managed to get a low mileage example with full Termi system and top box, the extra warranty was on the bike as well! Part ex'ed a sports bike and a sports tourer and a bit of finance to buy the best all round bike there is! I make up places I need to go to just so I can enjoy the bike more, off to the TT on race week soon so the miles will be on even more!

Back to the point, the quote I got for another year was £360, it's quite a comprehensive warranty covering most items but not consumables, brakes and chains and things, covers up to £60 an hour labour cost, max claim £2000 and no excess.

I would be really interested in your options on whether its better to bank the money and hope I don't have any issues or consider the warranty? The bikes a keeper for me, I have read recently on this forum of other people's woes but I love the styling the noise and the admiring looks and interest you get.

    Thanks in advance.

  3. It's a lottery isn't it? Put the money aside and hope nothing happens for 3-4 years or get to that point and think I just wasted 1500 quid. Not wanting to sound like an IFA, but it all depends on your attitude to risk?

My car for example has an engine that would cost nearly the current car value to replace and a gearbox worth as much as my 2010 Mutley (once it is fixed!), so I couldn't contemplate not having the warranty at 1300 pa. The bike is a different proposition for me and I may well take a risk as my 3rd year warranty runs out next month?

  4. Hi
I'm will be in the same situation next week and still weighing up the alternatives, where did you get yor quote from. Thanks.

  5. Hi Bradders, Warranty Direct, I have had some paperwork thru the post about the cover and it seems to be ok in terms of the level of cover, if I'm right the cost of the extended Ducati warranty was around £300 so compares closely to that. Reading the booklet it says that wear and tear is covered from day one if following on from the manufacturers warranty.

Also says cover for failure identified during an Annual service or MOT! So seems pretty good. I have until August to decide so plenty of time to read the small print.

  6. If the warranty costs £360 and the maximum claim is £2k then at best it will pay out £1640. I'm not sure you would get anything substantial repaired for that money.

I think i would take the risk of running without.

  7. I got an online quote from Warrantydirect @ £650 so how did you get £360? There wasn't accurate model info (model and dates wer mixed up) so I entered 1198cc petrol (under Multistrada). Maybe the quote by phone would be better? I thought the policy seemed very comprehensive.

  8. Just been online and WD wanted £650.

  9. Just had a call from WD after putting my details on there website earlier, they offered me the cover for £350 for the year. Yes I've took it ( just in case) yes I know I could take the chance but couldn't really afford a 1-2k bill if it went tits up.

  10. Hi Duke, 2k is the maximum claim in one go but up to 4k is the policy claim limit. I need to check the labour rate at my local Ducati dealer to see if its below the maximum hourly rate that the policy covers, even if was £65 per hour I would only pay a minimal amount! It's defo worth thinking about.

Maybe Bradders could give some more info when he gets his policy through!

  11. I got the call too and the quote dropped down to £375 (they obviously rate mine as a higher risk!?*). I will check the docs when they arrive but it seems a good policy and worth doing when you look at what could go wrong. This will also take away the temptation to get the 2013.......for a while at least

  12. Hi guys, bit of an update, called WD back and spoke to the chap who phoned me after I went on the website, I asked about policy start dates because my Ducati warranty runs until 20th August 13, he said I can take the policy out now and it runs alongside the Ducati one, when the Ducati one finishes they will reset the WD policy to the full 12 months because I wouldn't have claimed on it, I was told you can do this up to 6 month before the end of the Ducati warranty. I think that is really good!

Also they would allow me to pay quarterly instalments of £85 if wanted and there is no interest applied! I haggled the price and got them down another 20 quid as well!

At moment I can't see a downside but I have the weekend before I call them back for you lot to tell me your opinions please.

  13. Exactly the same for me. Filled in the form online and then had a phone call. They went down to £374 for a year, with a multi-year option which actually went down in price year on year (which it thought strange but didn't argue with!).

    One Year: £374
    Two Years: £374 x 1.9 = £710.60
    Year 3: £374 x 2.75 = £1,028.50

Haven't quite decided yet, but will almost certainly take a three year one out. I've only just bought the bike about three weeks ago and the original Ducati warranty is on the verge of running out.

I've attached the Policy Document that I was sent so you can have a read if you want. Can't see anything about a £2,000 max claim limit though.

  14. Hi briggers, I got sent a quotation booklet, page 4 says claims limit 2k, and policy claims limit 4k, it also says cover from day one or from any date the existing warranty ends.

There is also a statement that says "Cover for failure identified during annual service or MOT. So they appear to cover stuff you may not know about!

The policy can be transferred to a new owner when sold as well!

As I said I m struggling to see a downside at the moment, they don't cover the engine ECU but I already have a spare from when the Termi system was fitted, so there is a downside.

  15. My 2 year factory warranty run out last month so looked at WD. I think what they cover is very good so paid £350. It also includes cover in Europe. But you pay the bill then claim it back. In UK as long as garage is VAT registered and OK'd by WD the garage deals with WD. Other warranty products are available

  16. In my opinion (as a car sales manager) listed component policies are notoriously finicky about what they cover, I would (and will, I'm in the same position myself, as I'm about to buy a 2011 multi) speak to your local dealers service department and ask if they can recommend a company.
