I’ve just fitted these to my 848 and they are lovely. However the suggestion they give for how to angle them would mean there is no way you can use the steering lock. I’ve therefore fitted them as far back as I can but so I can use the steering lock. The upshot is that they are very straight, I’ve gone full Troy Bayliss in the way they are set up. I can’t ride the bike at the mo so I’m after some comments from others who have changed handlebars as to whether this is going to feel horrible when I ride it? It feels okay to sit on, the handlebars don’t really drop away (as expected) which might make it less comfortable at higher lean on trackdays but more comfortable on the road?
Did you buy new? Where from etc and how much please? Can’t help with your q’s but feedback is generally good what I see, bit wider too more leverage?
Yeah, from bikerbitz I think who are the UK importer, not cheap at £300 odd quid. I had a Speedymoto top clamp which was okay but tbh I prefer the stock look and wanted to see if these are even more comfortable. I’m looking forward to riding it when I can but definitely a bit concerned they will feel weird, hence asking for feedback
I have them fitted to mine and I've been very impressed with them. I limited the steering lock with the adjusters on mine but I had other elements clashing before (brake reservoir etc). What is limiting the lock for you?
The lock is limited by the steering lock mechanism, I could give myself some option to run the bars swept back if I shaved some metal from the 'Anchor' on the top yoke that the steering pin has to pass (if that makes any sense!) the bars would contact the tank long before the steering lock can engage. I rode the bike yesterday and after the initial weirdness at the amount of difference, I got on okay with it, the bike now seems to steer quite quickly, a factor of having wider bars I think. My friend rode the bike and REALLY liked it, says that to him it feels like the handlebar arrangement on the 899 where it's quite wide and flat and you can really boss the bike around. That and a re-valved Ohlins shock with the ride height adjusted (-3mm as recommended by MCT) the bike felt really great
That makes sense and there really isn't much room with the 8/10/1198 series cockpit. I fitted the helibars as I really liked the bar position on the 1299s as I found it more supportive. One question, have you tried the bars in conjunction with the Speedymoto triple clamp? I've been thinking to buy a speedymoto clamp for awhile but wasn't sure if it would fit in conjunction with the bars
I didn’t as I sold my Speedymoto Clamp to buy the bars, but I’m pretty sure there would be problems then not only with lock but also when the bars are turned there would be clearance issues to the mirror fairing stay as it was close with standard bars that drop away! I’ve seen a Picture of it done but can’t imagine there was much steering lock
