After The 1198..

  1. Hey guys,

Last year I bought a gorgeous 1198 but just couldn’t fit my 6ft frame around the bike for any more than 5 minutes causing me to fall out of love riding sport bikes.

Fast forward to 1st March and wanted to share with you my brand new KTM Superduke (‘21 bike on ‘23 plate). I had a gen1 1290 in the interim and felt it was just right for me so forked out for one with loads of electrical goodies, minus the electronic suspension.

The awesome people at Laguna Performance Centre in Ashford Kent sorted everything for me and they’ve been fantastic as always. It was a bloody cold ride home mind. With the forecast snow and minus conditions again I think it’ll be a while before the first service!

  3. Thanks mate, really excited to get out on it properly. Maybe by the time it dries up they’ll have fixed some more of the potholed roads too…

  4. Nice mate, I had a gen 1, and added a fair bit to it, carbon wheels etc, did loads of miles on it, and a few TD's. I went the opposite way, I missed having a sports bike even though comfort is slightly compromised! Had both for 6 months but the 1299 won. Enjoy :upyeah:

  5. Corr I bet those carbon wheels made a difference! I had a base 1299 before and it’s definitely much more refined and all round nicer bike than the first gen 1290, so can see what you kept that one!

  6. They made so much difference, it's not until you use them you actually believe all the hype, it turned so easily. They also looked amazing. The KTM used to get a bit wobbly at high speed on track so quite pleased to have a fairing again. I think the gen 3 has had the handling issues sorted with the different frame, should be awesome

  7. I've got a Gen3 which is 2 1/2 years old now and I have to say none of my other bikes have turned a wheel since.

It just brings out the hooligan in me and the grin across my face on every journey just makes me want to pick that one all of the time.

You'll need a rad guard if you haven't got one on it (Cannot tell from the photos), and check the front exhaust clamp as they are known to work loose and the bolts hit the rad. If you're cracking on the standard steering damper isn't up to it so look for an upgrade (KTM/WP or Hyperpro).

Any questions just let me know.

  8. having only done a few miles on it I can see what you’re saying, I can almost imagine if you went out on anything else you’d wished taken the duke the whole time :joy:

you’re right I don’t have a rad guard yet but it’s on the list, looking at the evotech gaurd and tail tidy as the stock one is just o_O

nice to know there’s another current duke rider here and thanks for the advice!
