  1. Hello Ducati people
I have finally got around to joining a Ducati forum and hoping I'll get the motivation to sort out my 2005 999. I bought it in October 2010 and after a year of use it's been sitting in the garage as I have tried to sort out numerous problems. I fell off it a couple of years ago (low-speed - brakes stuck on) and not really ridden it since. Mainly because I've got young kids but also because my other commuter bike at the time was giving me so much trouble. Anyway, I am currently commuting on a falco to which I am fitting an engine as the original seized up. Once that's sorted I aim to get the 999 back on the road for May and do a track day. The 999 is pretty standard except I had the wiring loom swapped over which cured some problems but not all as it still cuts out when hot. I also need to sort out the belts - I have exactfit belts from cycleworks. I've not done this before so going to take it very slowly - all advice or mentoring welcome.
    Cheers
    Matt

  11. Hello all, good to hear there's good support out there. Not sure when i am going to get around to fitting the belts. DD, I am based in High Wycombe, I take it your in Dorset. Perhaps we can arrange a weekend when we both have time to do it and report in a we go. I've still got to connect everything on the Falco and get her running, so maybe sometime in late April. And yes I could do with some new nuts, let me know £? All I've got a t the moment are the belts. Is there anything else needed.

I'm not going to attempt the valves, any suggestions on where to go for sorting them?

    Cheers
    Matt

  12. If your fitting a new motor in the prila checking the valve clearances will be a piece of cake and an ideal time to do it while your changing the belts. If the motors low mileage and hasn't been thrashed it will probably still be within spec :upyeah:

  13. I guess MotoRapido would be about 1hour or so from you, maybe worth a go. I suspect other more experienced Ducatisti on here may have other / better suggestions for your location....

Won't be back until beginning April anyway so should be able to work something - maybe have a go on yours first!!

For the belts (aside from usual half decent mechanics tools) you will need a Crank Shaft Turning Tool for setting the TDC.

I am also looking into getting replacement / better fuel tank hose quick release couplings (as the last time I took the tank off, reconnecting them wasn't great).

    Nuts are here:
I will PM you with some info I have regarding changing the Belts.

    Cheers,
    DD

  14. Hi DD
Thanks for info and link to ebay nuts. I might get a chance to do this the week after Easter as wife and kids are away. I will let you know if I managed to get time to do it. and thanks for link to nuts. As Toby mentioned I may aslo see if I can check valve settings.
    cheers
