anyone on here got one? how do you rate it? Im thinking of getting one one day when im rich and maybe find a deal. not that i have even tried one on (obviously i will before buying or not) but from what i have read they sound good and i do want someting as light as poss with the best visibility poss. Have had my Arai astro r for 6-7 years now and it's a nice fit and fairly light but its showing its age in condition and looks (the latter not such a big deal) and style., By style i mean its kinda old school in the aerodynamics and visor department and although its the best helmet i've owned it is still restrictive and i find it hard to turn my head far enuf for a quick glance over the shoulder and am thinking something with a larger visor opening would be the ticket...
a lil more a short neck and blocky shoulders that in my jacket with restrict my head turning, that and getting less flexible with age! would like something with a slightly larger visor opening for a bit better peripheral vision and to see that tad further when im trying to look behind
really? from the few reviews i've read i was under the impression that it had a very large feild of vision... perhaps that is compared to other race types and not road ones...
I have one (plain) and love it. Visibility is great, really great, although not a massive improvement to my track Shoei, but good. I use it on the road when warm, great ventilation. Very comfortable but much closer to my chin than my Shoei. Very noisy too though to the point it actually comes with earplugs, but then it is a race helmet, not a touring hat by any means. Hugely adaptable re fit and loads of lovely carbon fibre. The visor does not lock up, but that is not an issues for me.
cool... the noise thing wouldnt bother me.. as i say the biggest factors to me are weight and visibility (the fact they look the nuts is a bonus) but when you say visibility is great do you mean for a track lid (never owned one so dont know difference to road ones) or great in general road lids included?
I too have a plain one & love it. Tried tons of lids on before remortgaging the house and buying one. The different options within sizes eg medium/small, medium/large make a fair amount of difference because of the sizes of internal pads so make sure you try on a few sizes. I was offered the VR one for £60 cheaper than the plain one but still opted for plain. The carbon looks the business and I don't find it particularly noisy when I'm wearing it in the house..
Not tried an Astro R, can't honestly notice any visibility difference to a road helmet ( better or worse) , but yes to best I've had based on lightness, fit , quality and looks. 6 months with it now & don't regret spending the extra££.
well ultimately i'll have to try one for myself before i buy but i appreciate the comments given so far as in if you all said they were shit i wouldnt bother! cheers guys
Bought one last summer and I am still very satisfied, also wrote the post below as a mini review Agv Pista Gp | Ducati Forum
I have only ever worn top of the range racing style helmets, so can only comment on the visibility they provide. Some manufacturers make helmets for touring which are much quieter and perhaps with a different visor outlook and perhaps more comfortable for long journeys?
