Will be taking the forks out of the bike at some point, looking ahead to refitting and access to bottom yoke with a torque wrench I am guessing I will need to remove airbox intake tubes, are there any potential disasters in store with removing and refitting Hopefully no need to remove upper fairing too ? Thanks in advance
They're a bit of a pain to remove. You do need to remove the nose fairing and the pain there is removing and re-fitting the mirrors and getting the wiring neatly tucked away again. Also, the tubes are secured to the airbox by allen bolts that are deeply buried and hard to get at. I think I used an allen-key socket when I removed mine. Very long allen keys would be as good, if not better. OR
Getting the forks out is easy enough, but as you've picked up, getting back in with the torque wrench is a pain. It's another 15 minutes on the job to whip the fairing and intakes off and life is much easier. Get to clean the crap and dead flies out of the air filters to
Thanks for the quick replies, dont mind the extra work but apparently mirror removal and replacement is a black art
Make sure you don't cross-thread the three brass threaded inserts on the airbox when replacing the airbox screw/bolt. They sit at an angle.
The air tubes are only a pain if you try to do it without removing the top fairing. Remove the top fairing first and undress the bike then remove the tubes. The mirrors are tricky, its not a simply bolt on job but it isn't much harder really. If you have stripped other bikes in the past the Duke is no harder (except the fcuking airbox, don't get me started lol )
