hi, i'm thinking of doing the air box mod and just wanted to ask if there is any pit falls, also is there a noticeable difference? it looks straight forward enough, can it be that easy. thanks for any pointers.
Don't do it, just some more air in doesn't give you more power or torque. Save money and get it remapped. That will make a noticeable difference.
It doesn't need modifying, just stick a K and N filter in there, and get it remapped at CJS. Job done!
That's weird as Chris gave the EXACT OPPOSITE advice back in mid July 2013. Hence me modifying the box before I went to him. As standard there is no increase in air pressure within the box at speed (+100), just a huge amount of turbulance (measured). That's why i thought opening up the other end/side hoping would help even out the turbulance (although to be fair I've not checked the wind speed or air pressure) since my bike is now awesome. The induction noise can make knicker elastic ping at 300 yards! Check out the other threads both here and on the other side of the pond for more views on this subject. My bike tuned easily and made substantial gains over standard (and some other CJS tuned bikes). DNA air filter, just cleaned and oiled De-cat, de-exhaust valve by fitting LeoVince complete system. 26,000 miles...may be mine is just run in better
Quick tip. you must decide BEFORE CJS works on the bike if you are going to open up the air box near side. As the mixure will be probably be out (if done post dyno), as the air flows a great deal more easily, as it has zero distance to travel (compared to the 24" or so and a 90° bend in the snorkel). One down side is that in town / very low speeds you are drawing in warm air from around the engine and as every turbo head knows this isn't ideal, however it would only matter for the first second or two.
