hi guys. Any experts- owners on here of air cooled Porsche's? I have few specific q's want to ask re: 911
Bloke at work had a few modern Porkers, then he bought a very early one. Don't think he likes it. He can't drive very well though
My work colleague has a lovely 1973 orange 911 thing. I can pass on questions to him if it's about classic ones.

YEV I've had one and worked on it, it featured in porsche 911 world magazine. I'm not an expert but I may be able to answer some questions. I loved it and would (perhaps will) have another. They just keep getting more expensive. I was offered a 911 turbo for 28K by the Journalist and I see they go for 60+K now... my one was normally aspirated but I did a few mod's to it.. They do handle too, despite what people say..

Yev My one was a 1977 2.7 911. I wrote a letter to the 911 magazine because readers wifes or something like that get paid £50 quid if the letter is published, they called me and instead came and did an article on my story, centre spread (rubs hands) I did not get any money for it Does your have chrome trim, chrome round wing mirrors and a rear spoiler like the old 2.7RS? (very sexy as a classic) My one was later styled like the 80's 911 with big rear wing. P.S if you don't run a front chin spoiler the steering gets light at speeds slightly above the speed limit (not on public roads) if you run a big rear wing. You say you are having full works at the moment,what do you mean, a major service? or... if you are having an engine rebuild it's worth taking it to someone who deals with these older motors specifically because there are a few tricks that a specialists will know that will save you future problems. I'm not sure exactly what date in the 70's it started and stopped but the head studs pull and loose compression (mine had this issues). There are upgrades for this, there are also upgrades for cooling as they can run hot... I had to do all this my self but if I had the money I would take it to a company that works on this age 911 (not newer ones) and understands mods, such as fitting a fan from a different motor with more blades. I probably did lots of other bits too. A good source of information is a book by Wayne Dempsy called "101 Projects for you 911" I did most of these. I may have used a book: how to rebuild and modify Porsche engines by Wayne Dempsey. I wish I kept mine, I would have built an RS spec motor and copied the body shell, replicas still sell for a lot. I miss my one lots but it had to go to finance other projects.
well, mine had full engine rebuild back in 1999 , and it is sweet. just having major service and a lot of bits replaced (so far £1200 on parts only) and yes, it will have chrome windscreen trim once i finish with it.
My sister had a 3.2 cs from new back in the late 80s, there was a long waiting list as they were limited numbers built, she had to wait six months but after three months of waiting she was offered double the purchase price by another would be owner, she didn't accept. The car was completely striped out of every unnecessary item from the factory, no electric windows no carpets no radio no ac. Pretty much a basic racing car. When she did sell it, it went into a private collection. Steve
all done. picking her up hopefully saturday and bringing her up to london. went to clear out garage i am going to keep her in and rediscovered love for my old red/white r1 4xv I've got sitting there. battery totally dead. mould all around. but still looks superb. 30k miles and still love it. i wonder if i manage to fit 911 and r1 in the single garage? measured up and it is touch and go. if they don't fit together i will sell r1. sad days
hey mate, i want to change silly MOMO steering wheel i have in my car for original porsche wheel from that era. do you know what would be correct wheel for 2.7 mid 70's 911? is it 3-spoke or 4 spoke one? can't find info anywhere. which one did you have on yours?
I can't remember Yev. Your car is different to my one, mine was a 911s. At a guess I'd say mine was like the wheel in this Porsche Werks Reunion at Monterey, California - Ferdinand I think you best bet is join a Porsche forum, as for second hand (sought after) original Porsche bits they will be expensive.
