Air filter for a full termi shod 1098s.

  1. I got my current 1098s in march after my last one was stolen. The service history shows nothing in relation to the air filter that would of been fitted with the full Termi system when the bike was new. As it's now done 13,590 miles, i think it's time to at least fit a new one.
So the question is guys, what would you recommend ? As far as i remember, the one that comes with the Termi's is a paper filter ? Would a foam one be better for the engine in the long run ?

  2. I recently changed my Termis over to the shorter, chamferd cans.

I bought the full kit, so thought I might as well change the ECU and filter while I was on. The filter that came with the cans was paper covered with a metal mesh by the look of it. I'd be tempted to stay with the Ducati filter myself if replacing due to milage. Your ECU will be specifically set up for it and don't foam filters have to be oiled regularly? (Tin hat on if I'm wrong)

  3. When I first put my termi's on I used the filter that came with them, next time I had a look in the air box it was full of dust which had made it through the filter. Now use a K&N oiled filter and it's way better plus it just needs washing and re oiling when it gets filthy. Never had a dusty box since lol

  4. Agree with Carter. Exactly same for me, opened the airbox and not just before but after the filter had all sorts of shit in it looks like it got in by getting by the end seals. I have a BMC (much the same as K&N, you pays your money and makes your choice) in mine although I don't have a full Termi kit the end cans only kit also run a fuller flow filter.

Personally I'd rather have rather drop performance and know my engine wasn't living on a high fibre diet, than vice versa. Not saying the K&N or BMC will drop performance or make the bike run rich either, I just don't know as its never been dyno'd or tracked so I'm not qualified to make an assessment.
