Has anybody changed their air filter for something with better air flow, along the lines of a bmc, pipercross or k&n? I've seen the air box mod thread but before I try that in an attempt to lean out my bike a bit I thought a simple performance filter change may help it along. I'm aware from previous bikes that some after market filters aren't that much better than stock unless you go for the race variants, but the problem apparently with most of them is the cleaning required as they filer much less. Since adding the decat and mivv my bike is running a tad rich, it's already been cjs mapped before I added the exhaust and was rich then, it's now just as bad so figured more air is what's required.
Ive had a K and N fitted for 3 years now, no problem, just take it out and clean it every now and then Also got the QD system and a CJS remap. 159 bhp at the back wheel, and never had any probs! I don't see why it should be running rich if you had it remapped, unless you have a clogged air filter or maybe a dodgy injector or something...?
It was rich after the remap as I presume that's how a tuner would get around the low end poor running , but that was when it still had the cat fitted. Now there's no cat it's just more obvious how rich as I guess nothing filters out the smell now the cats gone. I just don't want to have to go and spend another £300-£400 on another remap when the running doesn't feel bad, I just reckon it needs more air. I'm not chasing perfection and frankly I don't really think any amount of mapping gets it you on a big booming twin, been there before. Which k&n you fitted? The standard or the race?
Didn't, know there were two types..? Fitted this DUCATI MULTISTRADA 1200 & S 2010 K&N AIR FILTER | eBay
Fitted a Sprint free flow filter supplied by Craig at Moto Rapido after fitting the decat pipework. Very pleased and no issues. Andy
MWR air filter for my Multistrada 1200 to replace the K&N style filter that came with the full Termi exhaust system. I decided to make the change after recommendations (Tom at Hypertrick and the MWR seems the filter of choice over on the US forums) and on researching the benefits over the standard/OE and K&N style filters. Bought from Speedycom Performance Ltd
Performance wise Tom at Hypertrick said there was little to separate any of the after-market 'performance' filters, he'd done some back to back testing but he recommended the MWR because it seals properly at either side of the airbox - pull your K&N and there's a good chance you'll see signs of dust having worked past the rubber end pieces (similarly with other similar gauze pleated filters ;-)
Yeah not cheap but from their reputation a quality product..........just as for K&N's etc you have the option to replace the OE filter as and when you sell the bike and sell it I guess at around twice the cost of a second hand k&n?
Nor me (Yorkshireman......share the Scots view on spending lol), unless there's a very clear benefit - I was lucky and given one! ;-O
