Air Intake tube lengths with race fairing ?

Discussion in '848 / 1098 / 1198' started by Fastmonkey, Nov 27, 2013.

  1. So I've removed my front fairing and offered up my race front nose cone and I'm left with a gap inbetween where the air tube ends and the fairing starts and they seem to be at a different angle.

Any thoughts. Do I need some kind of racing air intakes or is my nose cone rubbish.............

I was thinking about getting an OEM nose cone and filling in the light holes at some point as all my other track bodywork is OEM with the exception of the nose. But looking at the lights now they are off the bike they look like they carry a bit of the air intake on them as well.

    So a bit confused really.

Picture, the red is the gap !

  2. There is a shroud which fits over the top of the inside and the airtubes fit into it, think this is the bit you miss with the headlights out. But most dont have that and just leave the gap tbh, well most I've seen anyway

  3. So just leave it like that with the gap and the tubes wobbling around. Christ the perfectionist in me won't like that, it'll give me sleepless nights.............

When you say there is a shroud.............. where is the shroud, this is a part you can buy or something ?

  4. They wont wobble around, they are fixed in place everywhere else.

when I bought mine it came with track fairings and had exactly the same as above, I bought another set of head fairings and they came with an insert. Be worth having a look on ebay, or you could buy mine :)

  5. Standard air tubes are too short for a race fairing.i bought the larger ones from qb carbon mine came without indicator mounts you also need in airbox filters

  6. A mate of mine used inner tubes to make some. As I recall the inner tube may have been from a wheel barrow. He cut and shaped it and used puncture repair glue to glue the seams and then he zip tied it on the end of the OEM scoops. Real heath robinson stuff but it looked quite good.

  7. Are you having track only or using road fairings too? If track only get some proper, bigger race tubes, of not does it really matter? I'd suggest not

  8. Yeah I want to switch between road and track top fairing. I could just make some kind of Heath Robinson joining device I suppose..... Or work out a way to extend the race cone part to join the oem tubes.

Or will they still work fine as they are with the gap I wonder ?

  9. Imho it will make very little difference
