1299 Akrapovic Baffle Refitting!

  1. Hello, I was pulled over this morning on my 1299 apparently for my excessively loud exhaust.
I think she sounds like a Lancaster and that can’t be a bad thing in my eyes.
I said I would refit the baffles in a bid to be set free, and surprisingly it worked. He said he would be on the lookout for me to make sure it’s done. Fair enough I suppose.
As it seems with everything on a 1299 nothing is as easy as you think.
Is it best to take the pair of silencers off as I’m worried I will drop the fixing bolt into the exhaust? Cheers.

  2. I use a dollop of grease as my bolt head is an allen, so sticky grease works for me. Have a telescopic magnetic thing handy though. As Ive dropped mine inside but the magnet gets it.

Personally I'd ignore the copper. as far as I am aware you may get a MOT check slip, if you do then swap em over for MOT check, then swap em back. Fuck the copper.

Ive a full Akro and agree its loud, but Ive never had so much as a sniff from a copper over it. Which is annoying as some of my spannies on my scoots back in day got me a tug nearly every day. Anyone here remember baffless Pitones?

  3. Re-fitting the baffles is a pain in the ass.... I had to do mine at a track day after I got black flagged and wasted the next session trying to fit them!!
Kept dropping the bolt and washer into the exhaust, luckily I had a magnetic tool with me.

In the end I resorted to superglue-ing the washer to the bolt, then the bolt to my allen key and that worked for me. Once the bolt is fitted, breaking the glue between the allen key and the bolt was easy.

However, leave them out!! Sounds much better!
Tell the copper your bike is loud for safety purposes!

  4. Thanks for the tips chaps. The baffles stay out, long live the Lancaster!! Cheers

  5. I 've got the baffles in mine and it's loud so God knows what yours are like with no baffles.

I rode a v4 last week with Full Akra and no baffles and it's was very quiet compared to my 1299 with baffles in.

  6. Baffles are for ne'er-do-well's, mincers and queens.

  7. As Sonic said, I dab a tiny bit of superglue onto the allen key head and then fit the head of the bolt onto the allen key, making sure its all square. Leave it a minute to cure, screw it in and and wriggle the allen key a bit, it will come free. Job done.

  8. BlueTac also works if you haven’t any superglue to hand. Has never failed me yet:upyeah:

  9. If you're worried about the bolt falling in, can't you put a cloth in the pipe to stop it falling in? Then simply remove the old t shirt or whatever when the job is compete.
