    Hey Guys,

I’ve just purchased a 2016 959 that has came with a twin akropovic exhaust, I really don’t like the look of it. The standard exhaust looks so much better.

I’m the least mechanically minded person ever and would be appreciate any help on what I would need to buy/do to remove this and get the bike looking more standard.

    TIA

  2. When you say Standard exhaust, do you mean the underbelly 899/1199/1299(?) exhaust or are you thinking stock shotgun style 959 cans?

  3. Hi Paul.

thankyou for coming back to me! The standard 959 exhausts would be perfectly great!

  4. Welcome. Why don’t you introduce yourself properly in the newbies section too please?

  5. Welcome to the forum!

I've recently done the swap from standard to termi's on the underbelly exhaust on the 899 - Its a easy job but the bolts were completely corroded, making it impossible to remove - In my case, the entire rear sub frame came off and I split the exhaust pipe behind the rear cylnder to remove the underbelly exhausts - Massive job becuase of the corroded bolts on the y piece connecting the cans to the pipe. (Pic attached, applggirs for the wifes mess in the man cave).

Never done changed the cans on the 959, so others will have to comment but it looks like it seperates below the Carbon cover near the foot pegs. Searching for 959 shotgun pipes on ebay (see item id 134104312000) seems to suggest its just a two bolts and it will drop off, judging by the pictures. Good luck!

  6. Thankyou! Will do!

  7. Damnnnn, I was really hoping I just could get a oem exhaust unbolt this double thing and bolt the standard back on it

fair play to you! But by the looks of things I don’t even possess 1% of your mechanical mind!

  8. I think if you want the 959 cans it'll be just two or three bolts, but underbellys are far more involved, just because of rust.

  9. So will the akro that’s on it and the 959 cans use the same type of pipes and everything? Am I right in thinking I just need to buy a 959 oem muffler and then replace?

  10. I think the shot gun Akros are only available in slip ons only form from a quick Google search, so the collector under the bike should be the same size as stock.

If it were me, I'd take off the clamp on the Akros and undo the bolt securing them to the bike and measure the width, my bet is it's 60mm (which is standard on the 959 and 1299). If it is, it'll be a straight swap.

Like I say never done it on the 959 but I'd say it's as simple as it gets

Ive never done anything like that before on my 899 either BTW, but one thing lead to another...
