I have had to remove the meta alarm from my 2000 748 as it was becoming a bit twitchy and I intend to use the bike for trackdays. The only problem I am having difficulty with is the 2 wires located behind the battery box (see photo). I can not find them on the wiring diagram in the Haynes manual and the bike will not start, by which I mean the ignition lights come on but when the starter button is depressed nothing happens. The black wire had 2 wires soldered to it from the alarm and the grey/blue one had one wire. If any one can point me in the right direction I would be gratefull. Cheers
Without knowing how the alarm was fitted, I would guess that these wires may be an 'interrupt' in the start/run circuit to prevent the bike being started? If so they won't be on the circuit diagram because they've been added - they may need linking together to restore the circuit? but I would check for voltage/continuity etc before joining them incase you short something out.
I presumed that the 2 wires are part of the original loom because they had a plastic sleeve, where as the wiring for the alarm was taped but I will check the voltage/continuity, cheers
i'd be the same re: sleeve but a true professional could still have used aftermarket. It does look by its location (and only two wires) to be the leads heading for the starter solenoid. As you have said, you could bell the black lead to confirm earth (which runs to one end of the ECU plug if correct) and the other one for an enabled live if the starter button pushed. EDIT - I see there's a black and white on one 748 version running to the fused ignition relay which i believe is mounted on the battery tray?
Now sorted, I managed to get over and speak to a local Ducati specialist and it took some finding but it is the cables for the side stand switch. The side stand switch has been removed probably to facilitate the fitting of the alarm so I have spliced the 2 wires together and hey presto she fired up. Thanks for the replies fella's.
Yeah, the wire loops up over the engine with a connector block about half way. It was not surprising that I could not find the wires on the Haynes manual wiring diagram as the grey wire is about 10mm long!!
