All Caused By The 14t Sprocket Change?

  1. Hello,
Could be a coincidence but, since getting my front sprocket changed 2 months ago

    - engine has cut out twice on me
    - DTC error kicked in once while driving (reduced to 5mph and no acceleration) and I had to stop and start electronics to get rid of it
    - drives much more smoothly but feels a lot grumpier when not warmed up (kind of surges)
    - today when I got to work my engine warning light was on

    It's a Monster Evo 2011 with 7k miles.

  2. Did you have a flat too? That's symptomatic of a front sprocket change!

  3. A 14t front sprocket also causes people to become unsympathetic to you and your reliability issues.

  4. did @bradders change the sprocket for you??:upyeah:

  5. Used the big hammer on that one

  6. Thanks for all the help ;)

I thought everyone went for the 14T mod.....

Actually, at the same time I did get new tyres on (pilot road 4), but I doubt that's the cause.

  7. You know what "thought" did don't you ;)

  8. Many do

    Its fine

Suspect you have a sticky valve or similar, most seem to at some point

  9. Ok, I'll go visit the garage. They weren't checked on my last service and it's due in November so I could probably just get it early.

For me, most issues happen after I've washed it ;)

  10. Valve as in flapper exhaust valve, that triggers most of the warning lights you see. Do a search on sticky valve

  11. part of the problem could be related to the tyre change, if you can adjust dtc turn it down a notch or two.

  12. I'll try 3 then. I'm on 4 because I'm soft.

  13. Is it the same tyre make model that came off? Cant see that being the issue if its ok when warm

  14. your soft? i wont tell you what mine is on then.

  15. My bike is fixed now. Apparently it's a 'common' fault on bikes. From what I gather where multiple earths combine to go to a single earth they are clamped in a brass block (or something) and what happens is the insulation (which is what ducati used here) comes off the wire, the brass rubs against the copper and causes it to wear. In my case it caused a short to a live wire. It was located somewhere behind the headlight I believe.

He only charged me about £30 for the 2-3 hours he's worked on it too as I was also in for my service.

I'm assuming the DTC was either a one-off or linked somehow and hasn't happened since I turned it down to 3. As for the grumpy ride, maybe that's just an artefact of the 14t sprocket or the bike needing it's annual service :)
