Guys, I'm after a new set of tyres for my 03 749, just for weekend road ridding... Any ideas what I should go for... Regards JA
As the title says, go for the all round type, those with a flat bottom are in my opinion crap. sportsmarts are OK as are 2CTs, in fact their all pretty much the same, especially on the road. If you do go for the Dunlops make sure you put the right pressures in them as they run really high i.e. low 40's.
Spot on! What? I've run Dunlops for years and years on my 999S - 33fr, 36r for road use. I can't understand why you'd run low 40's (Not picking a fight, but genuinely confused and ready to accept that I'm wrong .) I love my Sportsmarts, best tyres I've used to date - though I have little experience of other brands and other types of Dunlops in recent years.
I run my Dunlop sportsmarts 32 front 34 rear on road. I was at donington yesterday & was running 22 front & rear. If weather had been warmer I would have gone slightly lower. I've never heard of anyone running them anywhere near 40. Perhaps on a jap il4
Well I have just put Diablo Rosso II on my 999 and I cant fault them. Following on from using Super Corsa's I wasn't too sure how they would be on track but I still ride round the outside of people on corners......
Cant see what difference what having Sportsmarts fitted to an IL4 makes. Dunlop recommended pressures for Sportsmarts are 36 front and 42 rear ( although admitted that's not bike type/nationality specific). When I was first told of these pressures at a trackday I had a quick check of mine and was running a hell of a lot less than that. Out of curiosity I put them up to recommended pressures and they feel absolutely fine. I have heard that the higher pressures have a detrimental effect to the life of the centre of the tyre on the road though.
My tyre choice Dunlop SportSmart on the road 29/31 on track 26/23 cold. Adjustments on the track are made there and then to accomodate track and weather conditions
+1 on the Diablo Rosso II's... fitted one on the front of my SS, kicks the crap out of both Michelins I had on there? The rear is up for renewal & will be fitting a Rosso for sure.
Michelin Power Pure, really good tyre wet and dry dual compound, light tire technology on my 3rd set now, Richie
Aye...on my first set. v good. Would recommend. Met some serious rain abroad with v hot weather 2 weeks ago, couldnt fault them.
