Ally Swingarm On Ducati

  1. I have an idea kicking around in my head and I want to fit an ally swingarm to a 748 916 frame. Has anyone done this before and was it a success. I have welding and machining shop at my disposal so can modify parts. Any help would be appreciated.
    Mark.

  2. What os the std arm? Isn't it an alloy one anyway ? (can't remember..)

  3. Sorry should have said I want it to be a twin shock

  4. Realise I will have to weld up the rear subframe but that shouldn't be a biggy

  5. What you are trying to build is called an ST4s. Not too sure on the subtle differences between a straight 996 and the 996 powered ST4s but it's got to be close. My ST4s was quick and handled, once I'd got the ride height right. Andy

  6. No im not its nothing like it. Its an idea I have had for a while now and im pretty sure I can make it work just the swingarm im stuggling with.

  7. Fair enough but you might like to look at the ST sub frame, just might give you some ideas. Andy

  8. Maybe a monster alli swingers could be used as a model too, as we used to put the ST ones in our race monsters

  9. 916 swing arm will fit a 999 with some fing about so you could go the other way I expect.

  10. Yes I have and it may well play a part in what im trying to achive.

  11. I believe that Ducati Corse tried one in a 916 back in the late 90's. there were some pics of Foggy trying it out.

  12. IMG_0159.PNG IMG_0158.PNG Heres a SS converted to twin shock. Tidy job. It looks like he's flipped a standard SS arm so the original shock support on the arm becomes an under arm brace.

  13. i expect that you know welding Ally is not q so simple as welding steel..

  14. Yep got it covered.

  15. I would go for fitting an early grey 749/999 swingarm. They will bolt to the 916 engine, if that's what you are going to use. Along with fitting between the 916 frame.

You could then look at welding mounting tabs onto the 999 swinger.

Mind you, if you have the skills, you will probably be best off with trying and seeing what works out best.

If you are making a swinger from scratch, then you can use the 999 swinger for dimensions around the engine/frame/wheel offset and spar width for the wheels.
