998 Altuglas Windshield: Old Vs New

  1. For those contemplating to replace their factory windshield (either due to damage or purely for aesthetic reasons) with a new one through Ducati, please note that there are visible differences between the two (possibly down to the newer technology involved in their production).

The period correct factory part produced by Altuglas and fitted by Ducati at the assembly line of the 748/916/996/998, had the Altuglas particulars, the statutory DOT markings and the part code on the windshield embossed on it (that is popping out from the exposed side of the windshield, making it felt by touch) with a rather thick letterset. Compared to the Altuglas particulars, the part code under it was aligned to the left.

As can be seen in the new replacement factory part however, all this information is now debossed/engraved in the exposed side of the windshield by laser. Adding to that, an entirely different (and thinner) modern letterset is used. Altuglas particulars and part code are centered (that is positioned directly under each other). Note further that the holes on the new one are much longer (something that may make its fitting easier).
