Always A New Project!

  1. Never been on a site before! So going in at the deep end, I've got 2 bikes a Hypermotard 1100S that's had lots of bits thrown at it and also a 996 SPS equally blinged. The reason for joining is that at the last service the belts on the 1100 were put on wrong and the engine went pop! So it seems it's now beyond repair at the prices Ducati charge for new bits and no decent spare engines. So I'm now breaking the whole bike so listing on here and ebay to clear.
But it finally got me round to finishing project 996 over the winter and that's now back on the road as it's been sat in the garage for 3 years. Still a few bits to sort, but enjoying riding it. So it's what bike to get next to replace the Hypermotard?

  2. Welcome to the forum, I see you’re from York, you’ll know @Exige then?

  3. I'm new to this I'm guessing you mean Stuart? He's a friend of a friend and I've had parts from him, but never met him.

  4. Hello :):upyeah:

  5. Have you tried cross checking the parts you would need with other models to repair the engine?

  6. Hi, I'm not the mechanic here, so just go by what he says. When it comes to rebuilding an engine I leave to guys who know what there doing. Well except when the timing belt needs replacing it seems, just unlucky!

  7. Welcome to the Forum Johnny:upyeah: That's unbelievable and bad news about the last belt change and the engine but as Exi says above is it not possible to repair it. Presumably the damage was to the valves & pistons only? A lot of Ducati parts are interchangeable, the Monster 1100 from the period for example is, I believe, the same engine.

  8. I believe it needs a new head, barrel and piston and a con rod. I think he stopped looking at that point as a head alone was £1200 before putting anything in it and a barrel and piston was another £1000.
So really adding up, plus I can't do any of it so labour on top!
The monster engine has different mounting points I was told because of the swingarm

  9. Going by the parts lists...
Multi 1100S (the fugley one) uses the same barrels and pistons.
Monster 1100 & 1100S and also the Multi 1100S uses the same Head.
Rods are only common to the 1100 scrambler.

  10. Are the engines on the hyper 1100 the same as those on the 1100s fugley?

  11. See post above :eyes:

  12. Internals can be found from a range of different models - crankcases are different but I would get the parts and rebuild.

  13. I thought Al was going to have a word with you about compatability, he said he wouldn't fit a second hand con rod. Hard part is it seems everyone must damage the front cylinder and head as most are rears?

  14. He's not mentioned it, I wouldn't know unless looking up on the internet like I just did :):upyeah:

  15. Can’t you find a complete engine second hand? I can’t see that’d cost anywhere the retail price for the parts which is what you seem to have been given.

  16. Then there's the question from the elephant in the room.... Why is your 'mechanic' not paying...? Just sayin'

  17. You are not wrong, his insurance paid and I bought the bike back to fix, thinking I could buy another engine and nothing has come up in the last 8 months in this country. As the bike was mint low miles I didn't want to throw anything in it.
