Had some spare time this afternoon so thought I would finally put the double bubble screen on the 848.... Going through the tool box for torx tools as the screen retaining bolts are T7 size and its the one size I don't have! Bugger, ordering the missing one so delayed fitting!
A normal allen key can be 'made' to do the job. Just need to apply light downward pressure to the free end to make the head connect to the torn pattern at an angle. Then holding the rubber top hat pain in the ass rubbery things gently begin a rotation whilst still applying a gentle downward pressure. Worked for me. But then I'm pretty great.
does the right tool not come in the tool kit anymore?? Or am I getting confused with the 748? Rgds, Bob
I`m sure that a double bubble is more practical and all that, but it does spoil the lines of the bike somewhat.
This screen isn't too extreme so hoepfully should look ok. No tool in the tool box. I must have had one before as I had a 748 and changed the screen.....
I bought a dark tint normal for my white 1198. I shouldve bought a light tint. Sometimes you just dont know till you put it on. That too never came with a torx. Came with screws and rubbers tho.
Funny, I had a set of black bolts that I've been wanting to fit to mine for a couple of months now. Finally had a chance this afternoon. I happened to have the right size torx fitting but it was still a wee bit of a faff considering how simple a job it is. No lost well nuts, no rounded heads, new bolts all on and looking neat. For me, that's about as good as it gets! I nearly always manage to turn a small job into a 4 hour fight.
I used the long nose pliers for the 2 bolts which are a bugger to get to and so did it all without removng fairings etc thank God.....
Aye, my pliers were a wee bit too chunky so I used some scissors to hold the well nuts in place. Worked ok and was a lot less bother than I expected it to be.
Have to say that despite having big hands I managed to get them down under the screen to hold the nut up to start the bolts off......
