Anybody got a picture of their Multistrada with black anodised sump guards fitted. I think I want mine done and would love to see what it looks like before going ahead. Thanks
I think Palmer Products do a return service for them being powdered coated, same for footrest hangers if that helps re colour etc.
Yes, PP did mine, great service and really good quality finish (tough too). Not my bike, but shows the end result.
Have had a quote for black powder coating, now waiting for black anodising quote. which one is best for durability???????
I also wanted to do this over the Winter so I'm also interested in answers. I was following this thread but it's gone quiet recently: http://ducatiforum.co.uk/f16/re-finish-anodising-16407/
Interesting thought that...maybe I can get mine all done purple  Actually like the idea of changing it all for black especially the belly pan and exhaust guard as I don't think it will look good for long in that brushed alli finish
I have had a quote of £45 for anodising and £47.60 for powder coating both with return postage. still waiting for some help on which is the most durable finish given that it gets lots of stuff thrown up from the front tyre. anybody out there had either method done??
Got to be anodising hasn't it? I'd have thought powder coating, being more like paint, would chip more easily. Not an issue on pegs etc but on the pan which gets all the stone abuse..
Anodising mate! By a long stretch, the powder coating is like a layer of paint, it will come off. Anodising will give much better protection.
The anodising that I have been quoted for is a Matt finish so that's no good. Powder coating is not an option because it will chip so not going ahead at the moment unless someone has been successful with a particular company/finish.
Had loads of powder coating on mine done by Triple s. No problems with paint coming off, its rock hard!
I had mine painted gloss black as part of my Pike's Peak makeover. I've put some ventureshield on to protect the parts that get the most exposure to the elements and so far it's been fine (4K miles). TBH, although I understand the point about relative durability of different finishes I convinced myself it's all a bit academic, after all the vast majority of fully faired bikes are just painted plastic and they seem to last OK...
Just a word of warning about Ventureshield on any part that will get hot - DON'T. I have a head guard and the Touratech Exhaust guard on my MTS and The Touratech guard was looking the worse for wear recently (chipped and discoloured) so took it off, cleaned it and put on some thick Ventureshield hoping that would help. Eventually the Ventureshield went brown and was "difficult" to remove. Exhaust guard is now cleaned and re-sprayed with Exhaust Manifold paint, that seems OK at the moment. I thought the Touratech stuff would be good and last but it still got chipped and discoloured so I would hate to think what will happened to anything that is powder coated or anodised around the front exhaust / sump area.
Richard - I was wanting to get this work done over Winter, can you share where you got your prices from? I'm still unsure if Powder coating or anodising is likely to be better?
I went ahead and got this work done by Bettablast. After a fair bit of tribulation, with the package being lost and having to buy replacement parts, it turned into an expensive process, however I'm really pleased with the results. The cost was £104 for the there parts of the bellypan and pillion hangers. The anodising is very good quality with only a couple of nicks that didn't cover fully. Bill is very helpful and offers a range of finishes. Just wish I'd got the footrests done as well. BettaBlast | HOME | Quality blasting. Superior coating. BEFORE: AFTER: BEFORE: AFTER:
Twin4me, I'm guessing that is a matt finish ? Looks very good and I'd appreciate some follow up after a few miles on durability. Good job my friend . Andy
This was the anodised finish rather than powder coating, Bill said he thought it would look better and I think he was right. It has more of a satin finish.
