Any Bodywork/paint Gurus Out There?

  1. I'm after some help with the bodywork on my Merc Vito van. It's a bit shabby in places and I want to tidy it up a bit. It doesn't need to look pristine but I would like it to look a little less abused. I've taken it to a body shop and they quoted me £1200 + VAT and for that it would come back looking like new but it's a lot of cash for a 9 year old company bus. I figured I'd have a go at it myself but really don't know where to start. I've done a little spraying before on my old race bike but I'm no pro. I've got access to a decent compressor and I've got a DA polisher.

There's a couple of small rust spots but the worst bit is the bonnet. It looks like someone has had a go at tidying it up before and now the lacquer is coming away in several places. It looks pretty poor.

So, some pointers please. Should I cut the whole thing to start with to see what I've got? What's the best way to treat the rust spots? Should I then spray the whole panel or just touch up bad bits. Will I need to respray the whole van to get the colour to match? How do I sort out the bonnet?

Any help will be much appreciated. Cheers.

  2. Not on the paint, but if the bonnet is so bad that it is the tipping point, would it not be possible to find a second hand bonnet in much better condition?

  3. Have the bonnet wrapped and touch up the rest.

  4. Only use it at night.

  5. may e re-brief the body shop and tell em Your budget. £500.00 for example and see what they could do.
