Any One Still Running The Quiet Clutch Mod

Discussion in 'Technical Help' started by peter walker, Apr 10, 2024.

  1. Toying with doing mine , any one had issues breaking tangs etc , or has it behaved itself?
Also, is it ok to use just 1 alloy friction plate as the replacent of the first steel plate at the base of the stack in a steel cage

  3. Ok so built it back up with a stack of 37.2mm seems ok , only on paddock stands but selected first and could go back to neutral . Same with second . I appreciate it needs to be ridden to prove all is ok

  6. A lot better , it was my first major job on the bike since it arrived and whilst I haven’t proved it’s working it was interesting task and great to feel a sense of achievement

  7. Surely you jest

  8. That looks good, are they allow plates in alloy basket? The steel ones are much louder.

the 48t design used by STM are a fair bit quieter and if you also wanted to upgrade to a slipper clutch this would be a good mod

  9. Guilty as charged... But the sacred God of rattly clutches won't be too happy!

  10. I think it’s alloy basket/plates will have to magnet them. No plans for slipper I’m not good enough , electrics to check next fuel relay mod and maybe voltage reg moved too , toying with the exact start cabling too
Wondered if stu was doing at forum rate still

  11. Lol

  12. Neither am I, which is why I have one. Makes engine braking far easier knowing that rear wheel lock isn't going to kick me off!

  13. Ahh didn’t know they prevented that

  14. He moved to a different community. He still sells them, or you can make your own for less money.

  15. Doing my own appeals (funds hit after purchasing bike)any info on where/what to buy

  16. I never quite got this precision stack height stuff. I changed countless clutch packs on my 999 and 1098 track bikes. I always used broom handle technology. Remove one piece at a time, tie wrap them together and replace like for like. Never had a problem… :motorcycleduc::imp:

  17. Cheers Jon will get some of that wire , what about the longer crimps?

  18. Have a look at the orientation of the type you have fitted (I don’t have a 749 to hand) then size them to the new wire gauge / battery post bolt size to suit. And buy from anywhere suitable E.g. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/26228738...ar=561231306142&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY
Many can’t be bothered so buy £70 + ready- made items, but at £10 to £15 with enough left over to e.g. beef up the chassis earthing to the engine, for me it’s not even a contest.

  19. Cheers what would you call the protective rubber cover for the starter
