Hi All Is there a UK biker, using their bike, travelling to a country, touring, covering approx 1000miles in hot 34c+ temps within the next 2-3 weeks, and then returning to UK and continuing to ride our lovely WET weather??? PM me please Andy
Just got back from Spain and France about 1200 miles - max temperature 39 degrees but weather back here dry on our return
I've got Portsmouth / Santander ferry crossings booked for 9th September, return on the 24th. I hope the temperature will be a lot lower by then. Just got back from two weeks in Corsica where the air temperatures were 33°C in the afternoons. We tried to do most of riding in the mornings, setting off about 08:00.
I'm in Italy near Rome at the moment, having ridden down via the Austrian Alps and the Dolomites. Riding around here in temperatures of 35-36 degrees or so. Tomorrow I'll be setting off for home, expecting similar temperatures until I reach Switzerland and maybe beyond. Next Monday or Tuesday I'll be back in Blighty, but can't guarantee rain. What is it you want to know, @andyt749 ?
I am assuming, or rather reading between the lines, that as @andyt749 is in a certain position he may be looking for someone to test a tyre? just a thought
Well there's a thought!!! A hot tour, purchase ticket proof, some kind of GPS proof and continue using in blighty in the wet....... oh and some detailed reporting to me! Its a test that needs to be done, as guess what....... no manufacturer sends its tyres to cope with hot temp & hard riding then tests the very same rubber in the wet here at home..... ......I have highlighted this to a European controller and he has seen sense in this test as rubber that goes through such hard dry life has a tendency to lose its wet ability as the rubber goes off, and its a market we need to ensure the correct choice to our customers who travel abroad and still have life left for their day to day commutes......... anyone interested
You are right. I have had a few tyres do that to me. Worst was a Michelin Pilot 2CT. After a stinking hot day in the southern Alps with amazing grip, the next day the tyre had a blueish tinge to it and it was like riding on ice. Horrible!
I am riding through France and the Pyrenees on Aug 29th if that is any good. I suffer this issue quite a lot as i tour Spain and France every year. I regularly throw out half worn tyres post tour as they feel wooden. I had a Pirelli Diablo Corsa front that was scary dangerous after a really hot trip. It felt like I was riding on solid rubber tyres even in the dry. There was no way I was riding it in the wet.
