1299 Anyone Else Feel Like Race Mode Seems Faster?

Discussion in 'Panigale' started by Lyndon, Jun 9, 2016.

  1. Everytime I ride the bike in Race mode I feel like it pulls much faster haha anyone else the same?

I do have the throttle response the same setting in sport mode but still race feels like it has an extra edge....

oh and those of you that Track your machines do you have any preferable tracks advisable for first track day? I was thinking Snetterton or Donington. Familiar with Donington.

    Thanks and happy riding:grin:

  2. Is it because traction control setting in Sport is cutting more power?

I have just come back to bikes after 5 years (959, not 1299), and completed my first track day last weekend. I did want to go to a track I knew, but a few mates were going to Bedford Autodrome so figured I would give it a try. Anyway, it is a really good track to get a feel of being on track again (we were on the South west circuit). nice smooth, grippy, wide surface, and the great thing is no gravel traps, with a lot of hard run off areas (some corner run off was a continuation of the straight for a different track configuration). I didn't use any of the runoff, but it is nice to know they are there rather than grass/gravel as you start to feel your way. I would definitely recommend it as a nice track to have a play on. There is a vid here of me filming my mate on his BMW so you can see how open the track is (only second session out and we were experimenting with the camera, so don't give me too much abuse for the lack of pace!)

  3. Nice work I'm not one to really judge people when I need to learn it all myself, looks like good fun to me, gotta get it on track as it's becoming a bit silly on the road cheers for comments

  4. If the available power is supposed to be the same, the traction control theory sounds a good one :)

  5. You should be able to tell by the orange light flickering when it interrupts...

Am I missing something? Isn't this supposed to be the point? :Watching:

  7. Are there other modes apart from race?

  8. Presumably, sport and race modes are both supposed to give max power but the op reckons race feels faster. The suggestion is that traction control and wheelie control are suppressing power in sport mode, so more power is on tap in race mode, even though the output is nominally the same.

  9. Nice video Jolley. Try blipping on the downshift for smoother riding. Becomes second nature very quickly.

  10. I was playing with the slipper. I normally blip, but was just seeing what it would do. Copes pretty well.

  11. Yes... My sport mode has TC set at 6 and my mate was able to keep up out of a corner on the 748, felt like my rear brake was stuck on! But the TC light wasn't on.

I put in race mode with TC on 4 and it's MUCH better... I think the bike is being held back even without the TC working on the dash

  12. Absolutely agree

I've only seen he TC light come on once in 3,4,5 setting and my bike feels like it's back brake is on sometimes and my rear wheel is scruffy with brake dust after just a few miles. I have mine in ABS 1 in both sport and race.

Either the ABS or TC is doing something without flashing or the rear lads are very soft!

Bike feels much better with ABS and TC reduced I don't like the feeling of the combined braking at all.

  13. My settings are now

sport - med engine, TC 5, ABS 1, EBC 2

Race - high engine, TC 4, ABS 1, EBC 3

Really like the reduced engine braking. High engine braking with combined front and rear brakes just makes the bike want to stand up all the time in corners

  14. I use race mode. Is there a bullshit mode?

    Sorry mode 4
    Eh mode 1

  16. Gonna have it in race for a while see how it goes

  17. Just come back to this post. I honestly thought it was trolling when it first went up haha.

Wheelie control and traction control make quite a difference to the speed of the bike. On the S1000RR you have to buy the separate slick chip to turn the wheelie control off which they will not fit until it's been in for the first service. The bike is a completely different animal with the wheelie control off because it lets the front wheel float just above the ground which is where the rear will hook up best for acceleration, like when you watch people doing drag strip racing. The wheelie control cuts the engine a little to keep the wheel down so you lose power. Traction control is much the same as unless you have it on very low it will cut the engine a little more than necessary to stop the rear spinning up.

  18. Yes was a post with a little jest but was interested to see people's responses as how I had changed my settings I expected the bike to be just as quick in sport, I assumed if the traction control etc were playing a part to slow the bike the orange light would be flashing at set point, to be honest just need to do a few track days to appreciate it fully

  19. Never bothered with them, just left it in race from the start.
