Anyone Ever Had An Ss Ie Tank Resprayed?

  1. Is it possible to respray them with the tank pad still in situ? Trying to prise the pad off seems like an enormous faff if you can still get a good professional result just by masking the tank pad off.

Anyone had their SS IE tank resprayed, if so what did you do and who did you use? Cheers!

  2. I would do everything to get the pad off and remove the stud (or modify some other pad to accommodate the stud)..........anything stuck on a tank is a sure way of getting water behind it and causing problems that can't be seen untill it's too late.

  3. I hear you. I was really hoping someone would say "oh yeh, there's this great bloke who does a pro job and you can keep the pad on" but sadly not :(

I'm not worried about water getting in behind if the pad is replaced properly so will leave the stud alone if I can get the pad off cleanly and in one piece. If it was a problem it would have come to light by now (like the bottom of the IE tanks rotting around the hinge).

I think I hear the call of lighter fluid, a hairdryer, and plastic razor blades...

  4. Hairdryer and fishing line........

  5. It's only held on by double-sided tape apparently.

  6. Trim tape yes. I had a look at my new tank that arrived on Fri (yes a brand spanky new tank from Italy never been on a bike!) and it's on pretty firmly, no gaps I can see.

  7. Dental floss is recommended for badge removal. Sounds weird but it worked when I rebuilt my BMW (spit!) and had to remove badges etc.
Just seesaw away with the floss and leaves paint intact.

  8. Ignore my last post as I've just seen your previous post about the same thing where someone else recommended dental floss too.
