  1. Has anyone fitted a Ventura tailpack/rack luggage system to a 916/996/998. If so I'd appreciate your thoughts and better still pictures. Wondering exactly how and where it mounts and such like.
Basically planning how to go to the TT in 2013 and carry some luggage without resorting to a backpack.

  2. 998gsb has a Ventura kit for his 998s FE mono, might be worth sending him a PM. I have one for my 998 Bip, and it is a fantastic system which works brilliantly.

  3. A Kreiga worked for me this year.

Just made a bracket to fit under the seat so the straps wouldn't rub on the paintwork.

  4. Crikey Birdy, you travel light! How long were you away for? I presume thats a 20 litre Kreiga?

I'l send a PM Rob, thanks. The Kreiga is an possibility along with a tank bag, but I need to explore the Ventura option before deciding

  5. Just 6 days at the IOM, great quality bag and you can strap others to it if needed.

  6. 10 days at the TT last year with this And a rucksack.

Getting older and more sensible now so this year I just took a small backpack and sent a cardboard box containing clothes etc to my homestay hosts with a reliable courier - FCX are very good - Based at Ronaldsway Airport - But I'm a bit biased as I have friends who work there.

  7. Thats very neat, I see the hoop frame is easily removed with two catches when you get there? But does the underseat bit stay put.

  8. I bought the Ventura system for the MV with a sports rack. I then used it as a base to make one for the 748. Never used it on the 748 though DSC00551.jpg 041.JPG

  9. The small bracket above the exhaust cans stays put all year round (it is a bit of a fiddle to fit - easy with the cans removed). The side bars are only attached with 2 bolts each and can be removed / replaced in 5 minutes, and as you have already noted the rack+hoop comes off in seconds.

  10. I had a neoprene bag made up to my specifications by a wetsuit manufacturer (can't remember which one). Figured that it wouldn't rub on paintwork and be quite waterproof. I was right on both counts. Generally, it worked quite well. I toured all over the Dolomites, went to southern Spain, that sort of thing. I used little bits of neoprene to stop the bungies from rubbing on the paintwork.

Computer doesn't seem to want me to upload the file. But hey - it wasn't really what you wanted to see anyway.

  11. Not at all, open to all suggestions. The Ventura system is very expensive for one trip a year and a neoprene bag sounds rather good and probably a lot cheaper. Do please stick up a pic if you get a chance

  12. Site still doesn't seem to want to do pictures. But basically it was just a simple black barrel bag with a zip pocket on it somewhere and a good heavyweight wetsuit style zip. I could get quite a lot of stuff in it. It wasn't sophisticated but it was kind to the paint. In fact, I'm all in favour of sticking pieces of neoprene to any bag that looks as if it may come into contact with bodywork. it's easy to get offcuts from just about any dive shop.

  13. Do Givi do a soft tail bag for the 916? I think my bag for the 999 is a Givi. It's been excellent for the past 8 years, although the zips keeping it attached to the base are very Mickey Mouse. I'd have designed it with much more heavy duty ones.
