As title. Thinking of buying one as I can't seem to find a decent priced used genuine Ducati one on ebay. These any good? Knee-Down Single Sided Swing Arm Rear Paddock Stand For Ducati Motorcycles - New | eBay Thanks Ben
are you using the stand for just keeping the bike upright in the garage or working on it, I have a paddock stand for storing and an Abba stand when im working on the bike, it fell over while on the paddock stand oooops, and an Abba stand isn't a great deal more in cost
I've got one like that, leave bolts out of handle and once you've put bike on it, you can take handle out and get bike tucked into corner of garage
Its mainly for storage for now. eventually I'll be getting a workbench lift for it to go on when I'm working on it. However, I'll be needing it to sit on the paddock stand while on this also to keep it upright. I've never known a bike to fall off a rear paddock stand before. Are the single sided swing arm paddock stands a bit dodge?
maybe I am unlucky but its fellover twice while on the paddock stand, once on slow idle, after it had just started, I put in into gear to put chain lube on, it coughed and spluttered and the whole bike went over, then next time the rear was up, and the front was on one of those roller devices I pulled the wheel straight and it went over, the floor is level, so maybe its just me..............:frown:
Blimey, never heard of any bike falling off a paddock stand so maybe you are unlucky. I know these things vibrate a bit when on tick over but can't imagine it being that much to chuck itself off a paddock stand.
Nelson - What is that needed for? So it spins when you lift the bike? Satzoomer - I have a friend who lost a few digits performing that trick of lubing the chain with the engine running. Plus a few beers in the mix too.
Have a look at this for a quick way of oiling your chain up. Guvs. all my brothers doing, don't know where he seen the idea.
I have had two of these stands and they are not that good, they tend to bend in the middle and my first one fractured and I had to have it welded up. If you don't want to do any work on the bike they are just about OK but any moving about of the bike causes the stand to flex and bounces the bike slowly off the spindle. There are much better stands, the best being, in my opinion, the F Gubellini which were the suppliers of the original Ducati Performance stands. Even if you are putting the bike on a bench lift you will need a solid stand or it could fall off when raised up on the bench. I would never buy another and they are a bit overpriced for what they are.
I personally wouldn't go that route for the 749/99 that's putting force on the sidestand , these bikes are prone to sidestand issuses . Take note of the angle of lean Guvs after you've been doing this for a while , I bet you find in normal use your bike has a greater percentage of lean angle when put on the sidestand .
I see what you are saying, for the very short amount of time it is on my stand i.e. 5 seconds to get it on the stand, and approx 15 seconds to oil the chain, and 5 seconds to take it off again, that’s less than half a minuet of being at a slightly different angle on a stand that has pressure on it for 99% of it's life time, it's a calculated risk that I have thought of, but I will keep an eye on it all the same thanks. I wouldn’t advise anyone to have it on a stand like this for too long a time. Guvs.
You could get an FG stand direct. They are the very best and they still do them for the earlier bikes. I have both Front and Back stands and they are better than all the tatty ones I have effectively wasted money on. The only other decent stand is the very original Ducati stand that came with some models. They are a bit of a "collectors" item though and sometimes go for silly money on places like eBay. They do not have a bearing though and it can make them tough to get onto the stand, they are nice and compact though. An 848 Ducati Performance stand will also work and they were made by FG for Ducati as part of their Ducati Perfomance range. FG Special Parts - accessori per moto, ammortizzatori posteriori, ammortizzatori di sterzo, kit forcella, cavalletti di sollevamento, attrezzature per officine, pedane per moto, piastre forcella per moto, tendicatena per moto
I got a very similar looking one from Busters on ebay for a similar price. Very happy with it and it's been very useful so far. It does have bearings in the spindle. Not had a single sided swinger before so can't compare the quality to anything I've used previously. I also have an Abba stand but unfortunately it doesn't fit the Multistrada (well it can be made to fit but then you have to remove the footpegs to use it!)
