1260 Anyone Have Knowledge Fixing This?

  1. my Multi 1260s' left side pannier has been a little "wobbly" loose since the bike was new ... and since the right side pannier is the same age, and DOES NOT wobble, i am guessing/hoping it might be a simple fix, perhaps taking the top locking cover off, and tightening a screw, or adding a shim to make part #5 a tighter/more secure attachment to the pannier?

enough blathering on by me ... anyone here have experience fixing a lightly loose fitting pannier?

  2. John, as far as I can recall, and see from the parts fiche, there are plastic inserts on the cast subframe frame too. These appear to bolt on from the inside. Guessing that these could wear too or even one be loose?

  3. i've inspected the sub-frame mounting holes ... no issues there.

the "wiggle" is in part #5 ... as i can move that part when the pannier is off the bike.

i have a ride to Death Valley later this week ... so i am not going to mess with dissecting the pannier until i return ... just in case i damage the pannier ;-)

  4. Ping your dealer, they can sell you the individual part.

Or, maybe sacrifice the parts and stick a bit of epoxy putty between the parts and then tighten it up. Wipe excess and let it set. It'll never rattle again, nor come loose lol

  5. i've an extended warranty on the 1260s ... good for another 2 years. if indeed i need a replacement part, it will be covered under the warranty with zero deductible.

  6. Part No5 should go in and out while you turn the key on the pannier...
when you lock the pannier is should go in the hole and get a tight fit there with a small plastic tongue that is at plastic subframe. If you drop the bike with pannier it is pretty easy and common for this small plastic things to brake and then the No5 item slide in hole but not get too tight there, but i think that pannier maybe be loose but it doesn't detach from bike. For having better view at that small plastic compare the 2 sides of the holes and you will notice what plastic thing i am talking about. :)
So sorry for my bad english!

  7. no worries ... your english is most likely 99% better than my version of your native language.

i have checked the subframe mounting hole ... it is most likely that part #5 mounting/attachment point on part #8 is not tight enough.

i'll take part #8 off the pannier, and inspect ... once i return from trip this week and next to Death Valley.

  8. wiggle problem sorted out!

solution was to remove the handle/lock plastic sub-assembly (#8 in parts diagram above), wiggle the wiggly bits (#4 and #5 in parts diagram above) to make sure they were "seated", and as there does not seem to be any screws to tighten those parts in, i re-assembled, make sure that each of the screws holding the sub-assembly on were tight ... as when i was removing the sub-assembly, the two larger screws closest to parts #4 and #5 were not really tight.

so, perhaps it was simply that the screws were not very tight that allowed just enough play to cause the wiggle issue.

all i know is, the pannier on the left side of the bike is just as secure as the pannier on the right, with no wiggle.
