Firefox racing, suspension. I found an advert on Ebay while looking for some parts, googled the company name and they come up on several forums with good reviews but to what standard, road bike users that like a bit of bling, or racers that can feel improvement or gauge lap time improvement. I've used Maxton before (happy with them) familiar with Ktec and Steve Jordon.. the thing is these forks (R1 usds) need the stanchions plating and while I am at it, I will get the upper tubes plated too. So I called them and said it mentions you do this for £240 and refresh? Well apparently not, the Ebay advert is wrong (if you look at the official website) what you want is near twice that, that includes strip rebuild new seals etc... ok. I said you mention re spring, yes ok....more money. Now I don't mind it if works properly but I've not heard of them. You mention there is an option to re valve to ohlins spec? but you do not fit a cartridge kit, you're shimming, Not sure how that makes the inturnals ohlins spec? It does sounds a bit little like the Chinese pit bike market - racing terminology to sell shiny bits to joe public maybe I am being paranoid but when you add this up, it's getting expensive. Anyone had any dealings with them? I am not saying they are not genuine just that the advert does play on words a bit. I don't mind spending money as long as it is a genuine improvement, not some generic mod, gained by stripping someone elses set up. I have faith in the guys that people racing use. I have not found anyone doing motorsport using them just guys who like shiny bikes.
You did right to phone and check - I sent them a pitted fork leg to rechrome, took two months instead of two weeks ! The quality was OK having said that. Stick with people you have used and are happy with IMHO
I've heard of them. A lot of the local bike shops take their work there and are apparently ok. Having said that, if you saw their shop, you probably wouldn't bother going in. I once went there as I often drive past and there are always a few 2 strokes in their shop window. Popped in, saw the fat lazy bastard owner / worker scoffing his fish & chips and completely ignoring me. Just walked out... Better off going to some one with a decent reputation.
Thanks guys I will look into what I need doing a bit more. I guess I've not seen a reputable race engine builder or suspension specialist use Ebay for marketing yet. More likely they would tell you to do one if you were a time waster than invite them.
