Long shot but anyone in or near Hammersmith / Barnes / Kew with a steel 55mm socket for the rear wheel that I could borrow for a few hours? I bought an Oberon one and it was made of butter, cheese, and little chewy bits that get stuck in the teeth. I've ordered a decent socket but it probably will not arrive for a few days and I need to get my rear tyre changed on the 1199 for a Wales trip at the weekend.
used to be an excellent tool shop just off north end road in west Kensington, if its still open yes they will have one
I get the yamaha shop near my work to order me tyres and I just take in the wheels, they have already got the tyre for me and I didn't expect any issues with this nut. The existing tyre is completely flat and will not hold air at all so I can't really ride it anywhere anyway. On that note, what do people normally get charged for removing the wheels at the tyre shops?
I didn't answer as I couldn't help but sounds like you have learnt the hard way re: 'soft' wheel 'nut' sockets. I know there's a thread somewhere going into detail but can't understand what possessed a manufacturer of normally excellent products to even produce such a thing.
Sealey S34/55 55mm 3/4"Sq Drive WallDrive Socket | eBay possibly easier than borrowing one and you will have it ready for next time you need it
Thanks for the help guys, and yes I did learn the hard way re the wheel nut socket! I've got one of these coming before 9am tomorrow (fingers crossed!) Ducati Multistrada 1200 Front & Rear Wheel Nut Removal Tool Spanner (2 in 1) | eBay My local also does tyre changes bought from them for coffee if I take in the wheel hence why I wanted to get sorted with the socket.
^ nice tool but why the hell have they made it for 3/8 " drive? Ok, 9 times out of 10 will be fine but seems daft to me - 3/8 drive has its place but is also 'trendy' methinks
Eh? it's a 1/2 inch one, the other ones I saw here and the US were the same. I think it's better as I can easily carry a 1/2 inch ratchet whereas a 3/4inch one is too mahoosive.
Finally got sorted, what a faff around this has been. Hopefully I'm now self sufficent for all the basics. Best go and buy some coffee and beer for the tyre man
I need one myself. Are these any good or are they chocolate as well? Avanti Race Parts - Ducati Parts and Accessories for Road and Race Motorcycles. Services for Ducati Motorcycles. Race prep, Paintwork, ECU Repairs, Anodising and more!
