V4 Anyone Know How The Akra Ecu 'flash' Is Done

  1. For anyone in the know or whoever may work at a dealership can you tell me how the ECU flash is done when you buy the Akra exhaust?

I've heard it's on a USB drive, which i think isn't true & i've also heard it's done through the DDA dealer diagnostic machine which is more realistic to me. If it's the latter is there a code from the exhaust purchase to enter to verify that it's genuine?

  2. The latter rings a bell... @nelly will know...

  3. The latter is more or less true. There's no UPMAP key with the V4 exhaust. It's more complicated now, but in simple terms the dealer registers the exhaust kit to the VIN of the bike it's being fitted to, then when the bike is connected to the DDS the VIN is read and the mapping is made available to upload. The only twist is that only the dealer ordering the exhaust can perform the initial registration. If, at a later date, you remove the exhaust then a pass key can be generated using DDS so the exhaust can be transferred to another bike.

  4. Bimey! Thanks Neil :upyeah:

  5. What a pain in the hole they’ve made this. Stinks of a company that’s getting too greedy IMO. If I had known before buying it would probably have changed my mind!

Actually can’t believe the only dealer that can do the flash/upmap is the one who supplies the exhaust.

    Thanks @nelly & @Mary Hinge

  6. Authorised dealers in the UK were informed through a technical note that updating the ECU mapping for the Akrapovic race exhaust would be so, a long time before the exhaust arrived in the dealerships. Your authorised dealer clearly couldn’t be arsed to pass on the information to you before you committed to buying one. And by the by, Ducati is not the first manufacturer to restrict the avalability of bespoke software developed by them for a product commisioned for one of their bikes, Aprilia have been for several years. 7. My authorised dealer is pretty helpful but they wouldn’t have needed to inform me about the upgrade as I wasn’t interested in the Akra system, I doubt many dealers would inform customers of how the mapping process goes for a £4K plus exhaust if they’re just buying a bike.

Part of the point in me asking was to find out if an Akra map can be bought on its own & installed by an authorised dealer

  8. When the first race systems started to appear on eBay back in early July, I posted a caution to potential exhaust buyers on this forum that the system didn’t come with an upmap key and for the UK, only authorised dealers could upload the software directly to the bike. At the time I became aware of the technical note, there was a thought that the key generated by registering the exhaust was a one off. I’m glad @nelly has been able to lay that one to rest. 9. A lot of ppl going to get caught out, this bike isn’t going to be easy to map. As far as I’m aware only Brentune & Rexxer are working on it, Woolwich doesn’t want to know & I called Moto Rapido today but they’re in no hurry as it’ll void warranties.
The fuel line is shit standard, too lean down low & too rich up top, bet the Akra map with the system isn’t much better either.

I’ve a riding pal with an Akra on & I don’t want 2 bikes looking the same but they’re leaving little option, that’s the way they want it I suppose. It’ll be interesting to see what happens when warranty is over, I’d like to be able to buy the Akra download for now though
