V2 Anyone Noticed How Many Low Mileage Bikes Are For Sale?

  1. I have my reasons for selling mine, I didn't have a good experience with 4 warranty claims in 18 Months including the bike literally melting me whenever I rode it in more than 20 Degree ambient temps, but there do seem to be quite a few getting moved on....

My experience won't be typical in terms of faults I am sure, although hand on heart I have owned 748, 848 Evo (x2), 899, and ridden 959 and yet my V2 was appreciably hotter than all of those bikes, I would say 20% hotter..

I guess every dealer probably had a demo, most will do maybe 400-500 miles, maybe they are all ex demo, not sure...

  2. They are trinkets, there are low mileage examples of just about every bike out there, the V2 for Ducati was also reasonably high volume, I just bought a 2016 Hyper with 3,500 miles on !!

Its not bike specific, its just bikes ..

On Autotrader at the moment there are c1500 bikes over 4 years old with less than 5k miles on...

  3. I hadn't noticed, but that's mainly because I haven't looked. Maybe all the dealers are offloading their's in anticipation of a model refresh? My dealer told me that it's highly likely there will be a V2 Streetfighter, but didn't mention anything about the Panigale V2 update.

  4. I've noticed a number of very low mile v2's on ebay recently too. Would imagine demo bikes

The person I purchased mine from fell in love with it on first sight, then quickly realised it was way too uncomfortable for him

  5. Interestingly... a dealer told me to keep my eye out as there would be a new model, I said "Oh, an S model?" and he said "No, a Homologation special" and then the Bayliss came along, which generally most people seem to be a bit 'Meh' about....

  6. In the same chat, the dealer told me that the Bayliss bikes they got (I think he said 5?) had been snapped up very quickly, and he was surprised as he agreed it was a bit meh.

It's really annoying that Ducati don't have S versions of their smaller models as a standard offering. I bought an MV Agusta F3 (as you know) because I didn't want the base 959. Happily for me, they then released the 959 Corse but as a run-out model for the 959.

The dealer also said there was very little chance of a Streetfighter V2 S, which would be another missed opportunity to sell to me, and I'll go Speed Triple 1200 RS next spring.

  7. I should have bought a 959 Corse, it’s really that simple. I think if I had, I would still have it in honesty. It’s not really just chasing fancy suspension, it’s more that it would have been £13k not £15k and most certainly still more tech than I really needed with the reliability that comes from the last of the model line up, rather than teething issues with the first of the new ones

  8. That's exactly why I'm holding off getting a Speed Triple 1200 RS this year. I've seen reports of a temp sensor issue, and the cover over the exhaust valve snapping off. Plus the inevitable software glitches.

*touch wood* my 959 Corse has had zero problems.

  9. it's funny also, because I remember a dealer telling me they didn't want 959's as trade-ins unless they had the underbelly pipes on as they just couldn't shift them, but I suppose it totally depends on the dealer and the market in that region..

I would love to know actually how many there are sold for road use, rather than in combination with Tri-Options as I know Ducati slightly cheekily lump all panigale's together in their sales figures, or at least used to when they were all twins.

  10. I really don’t get it.

I know I’ve said it before, but it’s like only shagging your missus a handful of times a month to keep her pristine for the next bloke.

Fuck that, my poor bird is on the red line everywhere :bucktooth:

  11. there's an image that's really quite hard to recover from... Blue waffle anyone...

I don't have any issues doing mileage, at all, infact when I bought my 748 back in 2006 the popular opinion was that Ducati's with miles on were the ones to go for, regularly used, nothing getting dry or gummed up.

My issue specifically with my V2 was that I didn't 'want' to in the heat, the idea of going out on it and litterally dripping with sweat on anything other than a spring cool day just totally put me off riding. Anyway that's specific to me, not sure if maybe there are lots of people that buy on PCP thinking the monthlys are cheap so whatever, if they don't like it they will sell it, and not realising how much of a hit they are in for....

I put £5k down on my Panigale, but £1500 was gone instantly, I traded it in at 18 months for £11500, so yeah, there is no way you come out of it well, which means these MUST be ex dealer bikes, surely...

  12. I also wouldn't have bought one without the option for underbelly pipes.

This site doesn't quite answer your question, but is interesting nevertheless. I've linked to the 959 Corse results, but you can look up other models too.

I'm always amazed how many Panigales of various flavours I see out on a sunny Sunday, there's usually at least one in every group of bikers.

  13. My dad bought a Monster 821 stealth recently and it had 124 miles on it! The guy managed to cover that in 1 years ownership!!

For some the lure of owning a bike is too much until they actually get one and realise it's either not for them, it scares them or other commitments take over. I've been one of those guys before, I love bikes but some times life takes over and you don't get chance to get out on them that much.

  14. I just don't get PCP. The headline 'monthly' is meaningless, unless you also include the deposit down divided over the number of months too, which always results in a much bigger figure. You then have to consider the mileage limit, and the fact you won't own it at the end unless you cough up the balloon.

I've also seen dealers and even journos say that any equity in the bike at the end is the deposit on your next bike, which basically puts you in the very weak negotiating position of getting a dealer to offer you more for the bike than the balloon value they gave you 3 years ago. Good luck with that.

  19. Just picked this up and I am interested in this, as if I ever get my license back, then a Pani V2 was going to be my choice.

You reckon that they are unbearably hot? The MCN review that I saw never mentioned anything about this.
