Anyone swapped out the rear brake line??

  1. On my quest for weatherproofing the hyper I did the front brake lines on Saturday. the rear and the clutch line are en-route....

After inspecting my handywork on the front I then took a quick glance at the rear....just assumed that it would be straightforward but it looks like a shit of a job. The rear brake line disappears into the swing arm and then back out....

Has anyone swapped out a rear line atall and if so was it a skin stripping exercise (which to me is what it looks to be)

  2. nope sorry, what are you replacing the standard lines with?

  3. Red Hel lines with stainless coated ends.

  4. Have you got the workshop manual?

  5. Nah - im a bloke....ill work it out...

  6. Good luck Comfy - I admire you guys who do so much of your own bike maintenance. Looking at the routing I agree it is not straight forward.

  7. Yeah that's the way I normally do it but handy to have for backup like torque settings and stuff.

  8. Its funny you should say that but I had a tiny bit of brake oil residue on the left hand caliper....I adjusted the torque setting to "a bit tighter" - fine now!

  9. Ah - its not too bad - went and had another look last night - not as bad as I thought...the brake line goes round the front of the swing arm then underneath and at that point I thought it went inside the swingarm it actually goes underneath the swing arm but theres some heat shielding bolted over the top of it (WITH ANODISED BOLTS!!!) they wont learn will they (Ducati!) which are rusted....so they'll be coming out soon and be replaced with titanium. On hindsight my plan is to wire the end of the old brake line to the start of the new one and thread it through....

It probably wont work that way but I like to think in my head it will....don't think im gonna get chance to do it this weekend but probably next....

  10. I've always been a fan of just tighten but I used the torque settings when I changed the fork springs as I figured they quite important to get right. Didn't use the settings when fitting de cat and the bolts were so soft they soon looked like they doing the splits!
